Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Hi everyone, it’s been quite a few years since I posted, but I’m pretty despondent with QF, so apologies in advance for the rant!

I’ve been a P1 since forever, (I think in its 2nd year of inception) and I’m done, cooked, cactus, kaput even.

These last 12 months have been diabolical, lost luggage twice, just about every flight delayed, not a peep from the VIP team, (remember when they would sort you out on delays and missed connections?) no luck getting FF seats released despite long lead times, and generally the best part of zero service as a P1. (Looking at you Syd dom J lounge with that auto no attitude on flying forward.)

My last 11months have seen 5000 status credits hit qantas, as I’m not far from LTP. But honestly I’ve given up on them, they are so substandard it’s not funny.

I don’t know if it’s even worth telling them, as I think they genuinely don’t care.

P1 needs a complete and utter overhaul and rebranding, it’s a steaming pile of nonsense.

I’m currently PPS with SQ and can redirect to Solitaire if it’s worth it(love an opinion?) but honestly QF you suck.

Thus endeth thy Rant…..

I’m hearing you about the VIP team.
Something has definitely happened for the worse when they ditched the SST in Canberra and moved them to HBA as the VIP team.
It was great when it started during Covid but as travel has ramped up to normal it’s apparent that its nowhere close to what the old team was able to offer in terms of service.
Sometimes you get one of the originals and it’s good but more often you don’t.
I have had calls spill over to AKL and I think maybe even one time SA.
On the upside they can now do res instead of patching you through like in the old days but there is nothing really proactive at all with flight monitoring.
My TA does that for me now. I no longer expect this from QF.

If you are really close to LTP then I still think the benefits of OWE are worth having. But I agree that the overall offering from VIP isn’t what we used to have.

Sad story from a clearly VERY high value (and long time loyal) QF customer @ReLoad - you'd HOPE that if you just disappeared off their radar (fly VA domestic, SQ/Star int etc) then QF would actually.. you know.. notice and reach out? You' think.

Now if it was me, sure.. who would care less.. but I'm not doing 5k+ SC a year and clearly well over 60-70k LTSC (assuming from the post).. that's serious.

It's astounding to hear of poor SYD J dragon "service" and lack of release of seats - I guess it depends on routes, times and number of pax, but I and plenty of other P1's have had pretty good results.. and your PCV would be well above so.. why not? Plus just the other day read of SYD Dom J staff sorting out a pax with cancelled flight (put on VA in J) after QF cancelled their flight... (after VIP apparently were unable to help) so what gives? And plenty of u have had just fine experiences getting a fly forward - even on non flex fares (which is the actual policy for P1).. so again.. why?

oh wait...

consistently inconsistent(tm) - though in this case, it sounds like it's been consistently poor for you :( seems crazy to me.

but for sure, if you can do it, vote with your feet/wallet. If they don't even bother to notice that says much for them (either a failure of the CRM to flag this, or a don't care attitude) and well one can't fault SQ for service and product - certainly FAR more consistent(ahem) than QF.

Come on. Tell us what you really think! :) :)

The J lounge in SYD tonight the exact quote was “the next available seat to Melbourne I have is tomorrow, so can get you on that if you like?”

I get it, you’ve got cancelled flights etc, but a simple “sadly we’re in trouble tonight, so can’t help” and I’d be happy. The tomorrow line is just plain rude.

I’m a huge believer in being nice to people as it gets you much further in life, and I was really polite in simply asking if there was any way of flying earlier.

The retiming of QF93, the poor Mel-Sin flight frequency, the sheer lack of F ex Mel, there’s lots of Non service related reasons why they are a shadow of their former selves.

I miss the old SST, they really did care, and I felt it, and it made me loyal, to a fault.

Now I’m going over to the SQ robots, at least it’s consistent, consistently good. (Book the cook, suites, frequency, network, how good is the private room in SG!, meals, inflight service) are QF even in the same game, let alone league?

I’ve got P1 until end of 24, and domestically they might have me in the monopoly trap, but internationally, that’s different.

it’s interesting you say this because I find SQ anything but robotic in its treatment of passengers. I’ve been Solitaire for quite a few years whilst maintaining QF Platinum (not P1), mainly from domestic and NZ flying, so I’ve seen the good, bad and ugly of both carriers.

I can say in no uncertain terms that SQ is infinitely more flexible and accommodating on nearly all things. Waitlists, award availability, ticketing deadlines, rerouting, flying forward, excess luggage, you name it.

One recent memory that has remained front of mind is that some months ago when I arrived in SIN on a QF flight, I was desperate for a quick shower before a dinner engagement. QF flatly refused me access so I went over to the SQ lounge, handed over my Qf boarding pass and SQ membership card, to be welcomed with open arms. Totally against the rules, but their flexibility and empathy meant a lot to me.

Operationally, there’s absolutely no comparison in the reliability between the two airlines. Qantas just feels like a tin pot airline held together with sticky tape nowadays.

This is ultimately all that matters. I fly a few times a year between SYD and CPT and I book SQ with turns between 55 and 90 mins in Singapore. I know I’ll make it each time. I’m flying QF to DEL and need to connect to BOM in a few weeks. Despite the afternoon arrival, I’m not comfortable booking a same day connection given how unreliable QF is. Add on the generally awful inflight service, and I can’t see any reason to book with them

@ReLoad - if there were no seats available til the next day on QF - did they offer you VA or even ZL as options? it is my understanding that they should do this if no QF options for the rest of the day (unless this was for J class and there were Y available)?

I don't think it was a cancellation rebooking, but a request to fly forward:

I get that, but then it doesn't make sense if they claim the next option was the next day since the originally booked flight would have been that evening. I'm quite OK with QF saying OK, all the flights before the one you're on are full and we can't get you on anything earlier, but it kind of doesn't make sense to suggest the next option is the next day to me.

so... now I'm unsure :)

Welcome (back) to AFF! ;)

It is a shame that QF has let you down after many years of loyalty. Unfortunately you are not alone.

If you are that close to LTP, then I suggest you persist as best you can. And no, this is one time I am not going to recommend BA

Edit: You no longer have to fly QF, just credit to them.

Put it in the Californian desert more likely!

Tonight’s flight is late as always (how bad is QFs OTP!!!)

Points upgrade came through, so that was nice. Had some luck with those of late, so that’s something I guess.

Who’s the new boss of QF loyalty? They appointed anyone yet?

I have forgotten already and especially from last year onwards they are cactus

Is this from a P1 perspective or a different status ?
Hi PF it has been a difficult year flying with good old QF and have been close to chucking the towel in this year that is - with chasing this years holy grail of P1 status because of the appalling experiences - Especially 2022 have been kicked around with no decent support. Sudden denials of service. With no SC and points despite flying on Double Status credits Pass. Qantas are in bad role doing this to paying customers. Obviously you have had better experiences than what I have had? I have lost enthusiasm for them. Looking at good at alternatives.

So your experience is not as a P1 ?
Thanks for the clarification.
