Qantas Platinum One experiences?

What I did learn at the P1 lunch that was interesting was the memo about no more discretion on changing red-e deals, I mostly fly domestically outbound on red-e deals and come back flexi, but that sucks being not able to change a red-e deal at the airport.

Interesting that this was at a P1-specific event, as I guess I would've assumed that such a policy such as this may have quietly not necessarily been applied to P1s, at the agent's discretion, for example.

Correct. In the privileges it mentions a soft drop after P1 if you don't manage to attain it again.

This confirms the discussion from post #607 onwards - the "three year average" rule doesn't apply to P1.
It could be worse though - could drop to SG! :o

You might be surprised that hardly anyone buys the full fare flexis - but when they do its in similar circumstances to you. On the way home so they can upgrade after a long week/day.
What surprises me is flat out refusing to change red-e-deals. If I were working for the airline I'd make it so you can change an el-cheapo fare for points based on your status level. 10,000 for a bronze right up to 2,000 for a P1 (based on a syd-mel flight).

About 2 months ago I rang the SST & mentioned that I saw online that QF are a Major Sponsor for the MLB games in Sydney, Los Angeles Dodgers vs the Arizona Diamond Backs.

The lovely lady at the SST (Rebecca I think) mentioned she had not heard of this & I asked for her to keep an eye out for anything that may pop up for a special event for me to get invited to. I thought, well I doubt there is any chance but worth a shot.

Today the SST called me & said " I have some excited news for you & I think you may know what it is" long story short, I now have an invite to QF's corperate box/Private Suite at the SCG for next Saturdays game!!!

I love baseball & LA Dodgers are my team.

QF are such a wonderful company & yeah Platinum One may be un eventful at times & not worth it, but man have they really stepped it up for me this time. This is 2 special invites in 9 Months.

Platinum One to me=Totally worth it.

Well it shows that even though you are a P1 you have a poor choice of a ball club ;) - Cubs all the way for me.

Personally in my experience Rebecca is the pick of the bunch in the SST, nothing but stellar service.

Haha, cubbies hey. Been to Wrigley field & think its an amazing ball park.

I wasnt expecting a invite when I asked to be honest, but yes Rebecca & Natasha pulled this off for me, & am very pleased. Just goes to show, you never know if you never ask.

That is absolutely fantastic news and good on you for asking. As a wise friend once taught me, "it's always worth asking the question.." Trust you enjoy the event.... Oh, and if you have a 'guest' spot, I'm sure I can re-arrange my flights for the weekend ;)

I know I'll be against the tide, but I'd be happy if QF did not bother with the "special events" and focused entirely on the service aspect when traveling. I'm rarely able to attend events because I'm usually traveling anyway, and special events are far less likely to influence my decision to fly QF than genuinely excellent service would.

Totally agree as the rare times I had been invited out by Qantas I have been unable to attend anyhow. Being P1 has not really given an iota of difference. So I have recently slipped back in platinum territory and so far can confirm no discernible diff.

It will be interesting to see if being an ex P1 will give you a bit of an advantage over standard WP, particularly if you only just missed out qualifying (say 3000+ SC).

Had I been able to better target double SC promos! This makes all the difference in achieving those high SC scores and judicious use of JASA Award flights. But work and busy life can upset these plans.......at these levels you get diminishing returns for ever greater SC earn effort. You ask yourself is it worth it? I have seen and been enamoured by other airline program FF program's in particular my experience with AA.

I can see some sense in doing SC runs for WP.......can't see any whatsoever for WP1!

IMO WP1 is for the few % that actual do the BIS flying for a legitimate reason...be it work or pleasure. Flying around the countryside with DSC or coin or points just to put another notch in the belt is kinda sad. Now, if you were a couple of hundred short thru normal BIS flying - I can see the sense in doing a couple of dud laps to get over the line.

There is a reason why they don't give DSC to WP1s

I know a lot of sad people

I disagree P1 do have the opportunity to earn DSC .... I certainly did

The DSC promos where not personal
email invites. But generally more like special and specific promos available to anyone flying under specific published criteria.

I no longer believe that QF has sufficiently competent IT to make those nuanced distinctions possible.

I guess I've had six major (in the small scheme of things) IT-related problems in the past year or so... have to keep reminding myself that the people stuck dealing with my complaints are also victims.

Well, 6 months into my first P1 year and I am wondering what all the fuss is about. So far nothing above what I would have expected from plain WP - no op ups, failed points upgrade internationally (yes I know its dependent on availability), bad experience with Perth lounge access, no invitations to anything.

Some attention from the crew when flying J but nothing at all in Y.

Coupled with the poor Qantas effort in Perth (no domestic business lounge, no international flights) I won't be putting in the effort this year for sure. My flights will be credited elsewhere.

A very good summary of the P1 experience. I also find the P1 apologies and excuses team absolutely useless as well.

I will requalify P1 at the end of May (to extend P1 until September 2015) but that will be for the last time. I will then only aim for WP. Only flying four QF sectors versus earning 2700 QF SC will be far easier, particularly as QFi will no longer service PER in the future.

Hey well done Danny!! Congrats. I don't think I have spoken with Rebecca but Juliana always does a great job for me too!

I was just on the phone to Rebecca, trying to sort out why the majority of my bookings are now unable to be changed/seats selected by me online. She was very nice and I'm sure there'll be another email/phone call in the future as more information comes to hand. I feel well looked after, even for the most trivial things.
