Qantas Platinum One experiences?

At the recent lunch with Lesley and the team, there was some talk about people reaching P1 using JASAs and DSCs. My follow up question was prefaced by telling them that, that was exactly how I'd done it.

I reckon they know exactly how each member has attained their status and their real value to QF.

Qantas knows exactly what a person has spent flying with them. That would be part of the PCV calculations.

For those wondering how the 25% figure is derived take into consideration what value Qantas places on a QFF point not what value you place on it. If I had to guess that value wouldn't be any more than 0.7c/QFF point. More than likely less.

I am not the expert on Any Seat awards but I would be surprised if the points value + cash component was any more than 50% of the value of the airfare purchased. And with double SCs that value halves again.

I have been avoiding the Any Seat award threads and I thought KTA, TSV, DRW and HBA were the best value ones around until medhead mentioned to me there are better valued runs not advertised.

Gone but not forgotten?

As a beneficiary of both MASA and also a DSC offer I achieved P1. In the offer Qantas made re the DSC it talked about how it would help me achieve P1 and yet it now seems that they didn't want to me actually achieve this.

Qantas benefited from the drop in liability of the points used along with the cash. Cost of my P1 to QF has been an invite (accepted) to enjoy the Flight Sim. After 20 years of loyalty to QF I thought this was indeed a fair trade off.

Obtaining P1 was not something that I would normally achieve with my flying but definitely achieve WP.

I find it insulting that QF now say that my money was of little value to them and indeed my loyalty, as a lot of you I was under pressure to use other airlines due to price however I resisted and pushed that I would only fly QF as well as encourage and actively book other staff members on QF for both business and personal travel.

Well its good to see that QF will not miss my business or that of my many friends and colleagues that flew QF as a result of my recommendations. I know that a lot of loyal QFFERS also drive custom to QF perhaps QF do not value this business.

I am disappointed by the changes and especially the timing of it.

P1 to me was not about the incredible extra service and offers that you get, tongue in cheek, but more a show of my commitment to QF and my pride as an Australian and to support fellow Australians, Sadly this has now been simplified and made fairer and I shall no longer blindly go the QF way.......

This is sad but true ...... Almost word for word how I feel at present at this moment. Deciding right now if better to go AA or QF?

When I discovered JASAs and FASAs (as they were then) (and by the way a big thank you to this site for helping me discover them) I had been platinum for about 4 years anyway. These just made it a lot easier for me to requalify! When P1 came in I adjusted my travelling slightly with less Skype meetings and more face-to-face meetings and was one of the original P1s and have been since. I have also managed to get way past Lifetime Gold. I've always recommended Qantas over Virgin domestically and Qantas over the competition Internationally. I haven't added it up and wouldn't know for sure anyway but I think probably I've sent Qantas over $100k of business each of the last 2 years which will be on-going and increasing business for them.

I don't see the removal of ASAs as a deal breaker for me with Qantas. I will just adapt! I have rejigged my plans and will now gradually go back to travelling less and probably only qualifying for WP instead of WP1. For my personal travel I will also go back to travelling economy domestically (mostly).

It was fun while it lasted and I will continue to recommend Qantas.

Likewise for me it was redirecting CX over to QF, which lets be honest is a poorer travelling experience. I guess that's also the aim of the new changes.

I'll requal P1 this year, although each year in my head and pre planning I think I'll be lucky to get WP, but stuff always happens.

My P1 experience (even though upgrade free ) is still very nice, but it sure as heck isn't worth spending a cent extra for.

At least that's my experience anyway.

The dilution of the WP1 pool with a few masa/DSC types at the end of the day makes no difference.

Emily's post above really highlights to me that at the end of the day the easiest way to be ranked for status is by the $. So why not go down that path?

Just wanted to add a short blurb tonight on my flight simulator experience tonight. Seems there's been some cost cutting, or I got the wrong idea.

I had expected it to be myself and a guest in the sim, but it turned out to be two P1's, each with a guest. So sim time was shared.

I won't fault them for a sub of aircraft (747 to 767) as that can happen from time to time anyway, and a 767 isn't offered!

I'd heard from others that's they have you a cap, model airplane, and from the FO on the flight down a bottle of something... However we got none of that. Just a quick peek through the glass of the other sims, not even a look at the ditching training room and its pool.

Maybe I'd worked myself up more than I should have, but it seemed less was offered than others had reported. Indeed, no photography was permitted till the end, yet I know a P1 on here who was allowed to have a friend record a landing.

The sim itself was cool though and I'm now seriously considering a longer private experience.

Have you thought about a private flight experience out of OOL? It's no 767 but air Gold Coast do flight experiences in their C172's

I'll join you, or perhaps turn it into an AFF event!

A thumbs up to Natasha at the P1 team, my JQ red eye from PER last night was delayed with the delay growing every hour. I was going to miss my connection with QF35.

She sorted out by looking up regos and speaking to ops about my best options one what plane etc.

Ended up on QF (cost me a bomb) but she even cancelled my JQ booking for me with the JQ call centres wait times well
Over an hour.

Then she let ops in MEL know that I might be pushing it. ( the QF flight was even 30 mins early ) so no need.

I also got a follow up call this morning to see how I was doing.

That was service at its best. Thumbs up Natasha even during stupid o'clock hours overnight, you are the reason I fly QF.

It appears that you received the simpler* and fairer* flight simulator experience. :p

*One wonders whether QF will ever realise there are real customers out there, quite possibly brighter than most "marketing gurus" who would just like to be told the truth rather than spun a load of bollocks like "simpler and fairer"?

Like that one Tony!

Did you call them, or them you? Were they able to see the JQ booking because it was part of a QF booking?

How do you factor Oneworld spend or will it be Qantas spend only to earn and maintain status?

Being P1 I never got this treatment! Your lucky indeed!
