Qantas Platinum One experiences?

What actually happened? 5F -> 2A? :D

Was issued BP with my pre-assigned seat when checking in at BNE.

Arrived at SYD Flounge and was told the seat was faulty and given another BP with new seat number

Boarded and noticed John O'Neil chatting away in my old seat which very much looked fully functioning

These things happen :-|

That is not a nice thing to do regardless of who some people think they are.

By all means ask for a seat block but no need to be a jerk off.

It was in the lounge. 4B may not have checked in by that point anyway. It wasn't literally kicking them out on the plane!!

I see it as a positive move, especially when 5A was available. Positive discrimination!! :)

ahh yes, I've had the "faulty IFE" excuse, only to see a very happy couple sitting in those seats (close together enough to share the "faulty" IFE screen also).

I don't agree with you.

What you and some extremely selfish Platinum One's are saying is that it is OK to move someone out of their pre-allocated seat. Checked in or not is totally irrelevant.

So what happens when you are travelling with someone and you want 4D and 4F and there are 3 people with these seats allocated already? Kick them out?

I can see feper smiling. He was trying to argue he was right because he spent more money.

What I'm saying is this:

Row4 is reserved for CL and P1. Its hot property and initially is guarded by QF for its most important frequent flyers.

If a bronze/non status snags row 4 because their buddy at check in gave it to them ; and yet there is a p1 with an unallocated seat on that flight then yes qf should boot the bronze out. I draw the line at taking it off a gold FF - that's not cool.

Row 4 really should be reserved entrely for plat and higher no matter what. Adds benefit to being a plat domestically. Because in the current system I can fly once a year and get row 4 in almost 100% of cases. Why bother with status if its meaningless on board?

I know what you are saying.

I don't think guaranteed shadow should be a benefit of status. Some people really believe the world revolves around them.

But what would I know. Very sad.

Not shadows... I mean if 4A and 4C are both plat1s and a plat wants 4B - give it to them.
But if a gold wants 4B ... no go.
If a silver or lower wants 4B... no go.

The only time a gold should be in row 4 is:
- they are travelling with a plat+ in row 4
- every other seat is taken and 4B is the last remaining
- medical issue, eg: broken leg

What if 4A and 4C are both Silver or Golds and have pre-allocated their seat at T-80 hours and 2 Platinum One's get on earlier flight at T-30 minutes and at lounge ask to be moved to 4A and 4C?

Worms! Can! Open....

Mate, its a seat on a bus for god's sake, nothing more, nothing less. If fellow air bus passengers cannot accept someone sitting next to them, then buy the seat, period. What do u think the marketing genius was thinking when they came up with the term/phase/brand "Airbus".

I dont think the everyday passenger (non status) really cares who they sit next to, they just want to get from A to B.
Maybe the P1 or CL could learn something talking to the person next to them...

Heck, I sat next to JohnK, unexpectedly, on a flight to SG and had a few interesting conversations, none about golf, because we leave that on the golf course.

Until QF or other airlines become a not for profit charity, except the fact that they will sell seats and they will allocate seats to everyone up until take off.

I'm sure you are a nice guy, but really...

Similar thing happened to me. I pre-allocated 1A but was booted to 2A when checking in. Was told that I got trumped by a P1.

I was a bit peeved by this but I got over it and tried to enjoy the flight as much as possible as I didn't want this small (and some might say petty) incident ruin my travel.

That's just not fair!
I think pre-allocated seats must be respected, regardless of status. I can't believe P1s have the right to kick out someone from their seat just because they were too slow or forgot to pre-select one.

I'de feel bad/embarrassed to ring up & ask someone to get shifted, heck would be even worse when you sit on the plane & you can feel that person staring down at you! lol

Although when I cant select the seat I want, I make sure I see whos sitting in my seat

Yes and no - I am fairly sure that during the process QF make it known that any can be moved for whatever (read operational) reasons.

Saying that where I copped it a couple of weeks back where the wife, child and I had pre-selected 46AB on the into 332 were moved into 56AB at checkin. The reason was that two other higher priority pax had wanted to move forward. Long story cut short, we ended up back in 46AB as the NB's were moved forward into new seats. The agent was a bit surprised to have her bluff called and tried making out that we were having a favour done.
Hint - moving pax back 10+ rows into the last row is not a favour ever.
Hint number 2 - You generally don't have higher status pax sitting that far back, unless they want the exit row in 45.
Hint number 3 - Don't lie to a pax and get sour when the lie gets called.
I wasn't happy that day, but the mood changed when we ended up getting back in the air.

Me too :)
Fortunately it doesn't happen often as I make sure to select my seat as soon as I make the booking.
