Qantas Platinum One experiences?

As the P1 apologies and excuses team are supposed to 'monitor' my travel and as they know I (and every other P1) want a shadow, why should we have to do anything..... It should be automatic. I will contact them if I want a seat mate.

You can always buy a second seat and then its a done deal:cool:

Cheers

According to the P1 Team the IT system cant handle that...

This is the argument the P1 A&E team use also. I told them that I could do that on VA with almost no status as well.

Or like the guy in Germany, buy a full fare ticket and change it right before u board...after all the seat assignments have been made. Just don't get on the juice in the QP and forget, else them be expensive drinks!

Some interesting theories about a fellow P1 sitting in the A/C/D/F seat being the best guarantee of a B/E shadow. In my (admittedly anecdotal) experience, it's the CLs that seem to have by far the best 'shadow' and I've always found sharing a row of 3 with a CL results in a middle-seat shadow. That's the slightly disappointing thing about P1: even though your business is worth >$50k per year and you are afforded the same individual seat selection as a CL, you are not affordded the same shadow as a CL. (Yes, I know, 'first world problems' blah blah...).

We always book QF in J on points so it is difficult on domestic flights to notice much difference between being P1 instead of WP especially seeing I sit next to the P1 so no shadow. QF are getting better at pronouncing our last name.
we would like the seat refits to be happening now rather than later. Mrscove enjoyed the beef cheeks as that is a favourite.

Not necessarily true. CL can select any seat they want, including those already selected by someone, even if already checked-in.
i.e. they can bump you, end of story (I don't know if they can bump another CL??)
P1 cannot bump others.

Wow I didn't know that!

Not my experience, in fact I have asked QF if there is a note in my profile that requires the check in agent to find someone to sit next to me.

Not such a problem these days though I have given up on QF domestically, the lack of PB and the permanent seat mate means I fly VA...at least PB works and I get an empty seat next to me in row three more often than not.

You are not to be trusted with a spare seat next to you Tony!

I also heard a rumour that Rolf had a permanent request in for someone female in the seat next to him.

+1. Now that priority boarding seems more reliable, a passenger in 4B or 4E when the middle seats are empty in most of the rows behind is my most consistent gripe

Good luck hoping for permanent shadow.

Relatively full flight yesterday SYD-BNE. I had seq 161. Both 4B and 4E allocated. And yes you guessed it 5B, 5E and 6A vacant. The couple in 6DE must have been laughing.

Much easier to allocate 4B and 4E to those waiting at the gate to get on earlier flight. Their status is irrelevant.

You've been here 6 years!! :o
It's been mentioned here a few times - sometimes the CL has actively seeked the bump, others the system does the bumping automatically...
Then again it shouldn't be a surprise because seat requests are just that and are not guaranteed...

There is no such thing as permanent shadow unless you will always purchase 2 seats ;)
Today I got a shadow sitting in 23J which was nice, but I wouldn't be bothered if someone sat next to me. Who knows, maybe an interesting person. I had some very interesting chats with fellow pax over the years.
The only time I really care about privacy is when I want a good sleep on long haul night flights. The J class cocoon will usually solve that problem :)

That is extremely disturbing if there was a Chairman's Lounge that requested someone is bumped so they can sit there. Feper anyone?

Pretty sure it happened to me - QF1 First class. Neither here nor there given I was a solo flyer and the change resulted in =/or better seat.
