Qantas Platinum One experiences?

I must be simple, stupid or maybe both. I look at the available seats at time of booking and if my favourite seats aren't available I set up EF alerts and re-check at T-80 etc.
I would never dream of asking for a seat that was occupied by another passenger whether I was P1, CL or AJ.
That's pretty basic manners IMHO

Wow, that's extreme :D
Will you actually book another flight if you favourite seat is occupied?

Haha, yeah pretty much, usually book my flights 10 days before Im due to fly, so its never really an issue,on the rare occasion there are other P1's in the front row of whY, only comes an issue when I need to change plans the day before & all the good seats are taken, & if I have to be on that flight then my rule is, if my seat is taken, I then upgrade to J

Classic example this morning on QF400. P1 (myself) in 4A, WP in 4C, non-status backpacker in 4B. Every other middle seat, including 4E, was empty for the first 12+ rows. Surely that just shouldn't happen.

I have, but it was not row 4 ... it was 80A/K ... for longhaul, seat selection can be very important.

However, that is getting off topic.

Although I abhor the practice of bumping, I suspect that many P1s don't actually ask someone to be booted out of their seat. I suspect that they just ask for ( or it comes up in check-in) seat xx and the QF check in person acts accordingly.

I too have been moved to accommodate john o'neil. When I saw him in my pre chosen seat on a QFi flight, after being told that the seat was u/s on check-in, I went over and told him that the seat was u/s. He knew exactly what was going on and looked suitably embarrassed.

Sorry to sound naive but who is John O'Neil - is he QF's number one frequent flyer?

As for moving seats apparently on a recent flight from London to Sydney, Olivia Wirth was in 2K (that's he favourite seat according to cabin crew) and was asked by the CSM if she would kindly give up her seat to the P1 pax in 2F (The "Harry Potter Suite") as his seats was basically u/s. She wasn't at all impressed, didn't move and scolded the CSM for placing her in that position in the first place. Nice. She is generally not very well like by cabin crew.

Exactly.

What this means is the gold and silvers in rows 5-12 are having a better flight experience than the plat and plat1.

QF's No 1 seat shifter by the looks of it.....

When you book a OW RTW in J nearly a year in advance and pick your seats at the time like I do, it's a PITA to get shafted at the last minute by a bogan ex rugby playing journalist in a red bandana!

I cannot believe that sitting next to someone v not is that big of a deal, and if it such a big deal, then buy two seats and the problem is solved, you have the ability to control your own flight experience or play the lottery.

I've been flying for way too long, way too many miles (3m+) and have never thought I should be treated any different than anyone else. Who knows, maybe the person in 4B just bought a full fare ticket and the P1/CL was flying on a red-e deal...

In terms of loyalty, I'm loyal to QF, probably because the benefits (I spend points on J class to/fro USA for family) are easy to use (for their holidays, no issues planning way in advance) as I tend to push the call centre to help out, i.e. make seats available that do not show up online and pay the couple of thousand point penalty. I also asked the call centre to waive a change fee, my office in NZ booked on the wrong date returning from LAX to BNE, after asking the $180 fee was waived. Sitting next to a person, my assumption is this will probably happen on every flight, as its public transportation.

I do understand your position, but when flying cattle class, you are in with the masses but you want privacy, pay for business class or buy two economy seats, that is the commercial decision all passengers must make. I make this decision with my business, we only fly economy and for leisure, my family likes their privacy so we use more points to buy them this component.

I agree with you that shadow is not a big deal, but it is a sort of unpublished benefit for P1s so I can also understand those who are upset when 4B/E is taken while other middle seats remain vacant.
Regarding your statement that although you fly a lot you don't expect to be treated any different, I think loyalty should be rewarded in different ways, like the $180 change + service fee you managed to get waved. Do you think QF does that for everyone? ;)

The fault lies with the check-in agents or the system that allows this to happen. No need to punish the person that has been allocated that seat or allocated tge seat themselves.

P.S. I still don't understand this need to sit in the same seat even when that seat is allocated to someone else. No one should be displaced from their allocated seat because some DYKWIA has a favourite seat.

I totally understand.Had to spend 3 weeks on a cruise with that bogan just across the hall.Total arrogance and he was on a freebie. If I was in your position I would have told the cabin what I thought of him.
