Qantas Platinum One experiences?

You can tell by who is CL/P1 on EF seat maps. Way to do it is to use a WP FF number in EF and you can see what seats are blocked to lower tier pax.

In my case I have been using my wife's WP number for the last few years. Has worked a treat every time.

Obviously if you use your P1 number you won't see any blocked seats unless they are really blocked out for other reasons.

Recently on a 738 flight the CSM iPad was open and upright at the front door. The screen it was on showed the number of pax by tier. It was (in order): VIP, P1, CL, WP and then I didn't notice the rest. Probably what you'd expect. P1 listed above CL!! I don't know if the iPad is always used in this manner on all flights, but that was quite obvious.
So maybe it's not that the staff aren't aware of P1s, maybe they just choose not to provide that level of acknowledgement.

As another data point I saw the iPad on QF7 recently - Interesting to me that there were no VIPs, no CLs and 12 P1. Didn't see the nimber of WP but I was surprised by the number of P1 on the flight (not sure why I was surprised - no science behind it).
 
Simpler and Fairer? Cost cuts.. they can't afford white anymore, so WP1 is the new WP!!!

Wasn't that the intention when Platinum One was created? Platinum One will become Platinum and Platinum will become Gold.

Sadly my main incentive for retaining P1 is to avoid the drop to WP... So yea, you have a valid point there.
 
I don't believe there is much luck involved, not with those solid op-up stats over the period of three years. It's most likely due to the routes and number of P1/CL commuting on those routes.
Here in the East coast numbers are about 5-7% per annum calculated over the period of 4 years, unless I was very unlucky all the time.

Yep this works for me even as a WP and flying KTA-PER flights. Middle seat in row 4 is showing as available on my log-in but on Mrs RC who is an SG it shows as blocked. Get the shadow 95% of the time, have no control what happens at the airport:)

Before Platinum One was introduced I was getting 4-6 op-ups/year or ~6%-10%/year on QF flights. This year I have had 2 op-ups and the year before I think was 1 op-up.

JohnK - I'm not sure if this correlates. I've been P1 since it started but noticed a drop in my op-up rate around the same time. I put this down to the changes that were made around points upgrades to allow them to be processed later (or something like that - I remember that there was a change and my op-up rate dropped, despite being P1 and flying similar routes to before). i.e. it wasn't to do with QF downgrading platinum but more that available seats were being taken by points upgraders rather than having to be given away as op-ups.
 
Have only another 10 SC to retain Platinum. Have until the end of Feb to reach lofty heights of P1.
How to carefully plan some good SC(status) flights.
Still a lot of flying which ever way you look at it.

Where do you fly to get an average of $11/SC based on this years spend with 2/3 of flights required to be on QF metal.

KGI-PER-PHE return every 14 days, 100 SC's x 26 2,600 SC's, average $1200 per return ticket 31k, also yearly trip to USA in there, aswell as other flights in Aus & NZ
 
Just wanted to share some exciting personal news. It's been a good week - I made P1 and also hit 1M frequent flyer points! Very happy!

Well done! Welcome to the club and fell free to share any experiences as P1, good or bad.

I'm trying to burn my points but with those high taxes and so many better deals from the competition I find myself leaving QF for last when it comes to redemptions and the 1M mark is (again) closer than ever.
 
Regarding the shadow hierarchy system, although P1s are 'ranked' above CLs in some respects, eg upgrades at -7 days, CLs will still receive a more 'powerful' shadow than P1s. For example, a CL who has selected 4C on a 737 will block everyone else, including P1s, from selecting 4B. A P1 that has selected 4C will not block a CL or fellow P1 from 4B, but will block WPs and below. Of course that all goes away once the flight fills up. So while P1 has access to the CL seatmap, they do not shadow as effectively as CLs do.
