Qantas Platinum One experiences?

I agree. It might seem petty but it is annoying to find a seat buddy beside you and other solo travellers didn't get one.
It really can't be that hard for the airport staff to try to preserve the P1 seat block.

Pfft the P1 find a seat mate team will be out of a job with that sort of attitude. :p

As an aside BA appears to be introducing seat blocking based on status....but the results are mixed. :(

and like P1 courtesy upgrades - "shadows" are not any kind of published benefit...

I never expect it since I don't consider it's something I'm entitled to.

seems I'm in a minority.

I don't really expect it either. But I think that QF should prioritize high value customers for extra space when doing last minute seating allocations at the airport. They don't, it's obvious and that's a fail for me.

I agree with this comment absolutely.

I think though the real issue is that there is probably an intent somewhere between Loyalty/Marketing and operations but really if you're an agent working a busy MEL-SYD flight and you have 2 min till door close, last minute walk up or change to an earlier flight etc (and I've done this if I've arrived early enough to move to an earlier flight) that the goal is going to be get them on and probably can't afford the time (let alone the effort) to figure out smart things like finding who is WP or P1 in row 4/5 etc and being nice. I am sure there are those that do when they can but we all know how crazy busy flights can be close to departure (and/or lounge folks etc)

not trying to defend here, just trying to see it in a realistic way.

BA has been running with Theoretical Seating for a year now, give or take. I thought QF had introduced something similar??
As mentioned Qantas have had theoretical seating for a while. The problem is last minute changes when trying to move people around at the gate.

I hit Platinum One this morning on my Canberra flight. There it was displayed on my return flight to Melbourne. I've read this thread with interest as I knew I would likely reach the mark this year. I will be interested to see the difference from platinum which I've been for approx 6 years.

Well done Jet2727.
So much flying to reach P1.
Did I read somewhere that P1's get invited to do a simulator experience? I couldn't find it in the thread. Where do I need to sign up :)

It's not by invitation, you need to call SST and book.
This is the most amazing QF perk. Every P1 who is interested in aviation should experience at least once.

Last week I've done the B767 simulator.

Congrats Jet :)

As for the event invitations, has anyone received any this year so far? I didn't even receive one for the new Brisbane lounge opening and I live in Brissie, lol.

Nope, last year got an invite to Madonna, but was overseas. (on CX ;) )

Welcome aboard Jet. Time to Learn the secret P1 handshake :)

Do QF recognise P1 as soon as it is earned now?

It used to take about seven days from qualification before you would see it on your account or BP.

I got it on the BP 3 or 4 days before the welcome / congrats emails.

No invitations for me (ever). A request to get more info on the simulator experience has been ignored now for over a month. On the positive side I had vacant adjacent seats in Y on my two flights this week - one of which was pretty full. No shadow shown beforehand so just luck I reckon.

I was 7 status credits short prior to my flight to Canberra. By my 5pm flight home to Melbourne my boarding pass online had updated to P1 as had my profile online as my 10 status credits from the trip to Canberra had credited.

I've applied for my husband to receive platinum status online. He is currently SG and lives and works in NZ for months at a time each year. He will be looking forward to having a burger in the first lounge without me! I have certainly benefited from the sale J and F fares to NZ in reaching P1 in addition to significant work travel.

Not many events in BNE, since moving there I got one invite per year, which could not always attend due to being overseas. For example, last year didn't get invites to BNE Int lounge opening (went to the event via another group invite) and also didn't get invite to the corporate event QF hosted in BNE (others did get). This year I got invite to the Dom lounge opening so don't really know what system they use to decide which P1s to invite and where.

I got that invite as well, show was scheduled on the day we were booked to fly QF1... Probably a blessing in disguise as she was very late and didn't deliver according to friends who went to the show in BNE.

Bit OT, my P1 card seemed to initially confuse the lounge person at the Admirals Club in BOS this afternoon. She was happy with MrsM WP black card but was not so sure about my white WP card. After a quick chat it was all sorted and we were in the lounge. She made the comment that she had never seen a WP1 card before and a couple of the other staff wanted to take a look at it.
