Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Are you going to keep flying QF/crediting to QFF for the rest of the year?
Yes that’s most probably what I will do.
Currently trying to work out if I’m going to try to get LTP with QFF (at 41K currently) or switch to an alternate that’s a bit easier to attain eg Lifetime BA Gold.

I have 56K Lifetime credits - but no chance of achieving Unicorn status in my lifetime.
There should be a way of trading off the massive surplus for someone who could benefit! :) 🤷‍♀️

You are at a trickier level for that decision than I was when ltp was introduced.

I'm now within a year or two of attaining ltp.

QF vs SQ vs CX

P1 vs PPS Solitaire vs Diamond

I thought id share some of my experiences from the last few years. I lived in Australia, then moved to Hong Kong, then Singapore and now back in Australia. Wherever I was based I always decided to give as much of my business as possible to the home airline. I’m travelling normally about 140 nights of the year, 90% Internationally and apart from short haul always in business. Hope you enjoy and find insightful, hopefully may help some in choosing between airlines and loyalty programs….of course this is just my experience and views….im sure others will have differing views which is totally cool. ENJOY!

Qantas and Platinum One

Flying:

My least favourite of the three airlines. I love their business class product, seat is great, entertainment is great, bed is great and pyjamas and amenity bag all do the job. Also I really like their food – feels healthy and some wonderful tastes. Why are they my least favourite then? No wifi on International flights? Not good enough when on business trips and im trying to be efficient. I find the service on board also so hit and miss. Sometimes they are just the best but sometimes they are just the worst! I also think they could do a lot to improve the timing of their service. It all feels so slow and for the shorter overnight flights to and from Asia it feels like they just waste so much time when sleep is such a premium. The other thing, especially at the moment, is just how many delays and issues they seem to be having. Maybe im just unlucky but for me definitely the worst of the three for punctuality.

Lounges:

Love the Sydney and Melbourne first lounges! The food, the service, the spa all just brilliant.

P1:

All things considered I have to say I think this is the best loyalty program. Absolutely love the VIP team in Hobart. Just an absolute joy and always willing to really lean in and help. With the usual requests but also the slightly out of the ordinary. For domestic travel in Oz I also have a really high free upgrade rate. Id say 60% of all my trips I’ve had lovely surprises at the airport with an upgrade. Have also received a few to First on long haul which has been special. Platinum card for my wife is very much appreciated too! Also when I’ve wanted to gets upgrades using points for holidays they more often than not come through.

My one wish:

Qantas gets its act together on its reliability. They desperately need their new planes.

Singapore airlines and PPS Solitaire

Flying:

An absolute joy. Every time I board a SQ plane I just know the service will be impeccable. The cabin crew are my favourites and you can just tell that their training is another level. Their care for you is off the chart and they really want to ensure your flight is as excellent as possible. The seats are great, the beds are a little hard if im really picky, the entertainment system is great, wifi perfect and again I just can not fault the service. No pyjamas which would be a great addition. As for the food on board really strong – book the cook is awesome and the usual menu always seems to be strong too.

Lounges:

They are really good but for me they just fall short of the Qantas first class lounges. There is nothing wrong with them at all they just miss a little something.

PPS Solitaire:

First class check-in at Changi is amazing. Wonderful experience. Never once had an upgrade so def not as good as Qantas there. Have been invited to a few events which have been great. I do also like the upgrade vouchers you can earn, great for family holidays and easy to use. My wife gets a Solitaire match which is amazing too. Other than that though it’s a bit underwhelming. The contact centre is great once you’re through but I don’t get the whole having to text them first and then they call you back. Sometimes its 5mins, sometimes 20mins, just doesn’t feel very special. Id also say the contact centre team are a little too clinical. Def don’t feel the same level of care as the Qantas team.

My one wish:

To get a contact centre as good as P1s! If they did I reckon the airline / programme would be unbeatable!

Cathay and Diamond (Not Diamond Plus)

Flying:

Have always really enjoyed flying CX and again service is right up there. Maybe a little sterile at times but always feels good. Love the seats and bed. Food is great, have enjoyed many good meals. Entertainment system I cant fault and wifi always does the job. They seem to prioritise sleep time which I’ve valued greatly too.

Lounges:

Love the Hong Kong lounges and those around the food. Always love the traditional food and always feels very luxurious. The Hog Kong lounges are very special too – baths, massages, doesn’t get much better but yes just misses out to Qantas for me.

Diamond:

So this is a bit of an odd one. Despite travelling an insane amount with them I was never invited to Diamond Plus. Unlike P1 and Solitaire there is no fixed qualification criteria. Instead it’s the top 1% of customers by spend each year. So I cant talk about their top tier but I can share my experience of Diamond and I have to say it was really good. Definitely the most amount of upgrades to first class. They also like to surprise and delight you. On a number of occasions I’ve been met off a plane by a very senior executive of the airline who has asked if its ok to walk with me to immigration. Nice chat about how my experience has been etc and then at the end has offered me free upgrade vouchers etc. Really nice touch and very impactful!

My one wish:

Diamond was amazing, I can only imagine how could Diamond Plus must be and wish they had a fixed criteria to qualify.

I feel very lucky to have been able to fly so much with three amazing airlines. All three are right up there and its been an absolute pleasure flying with the,. The three are all very close but if I did have to pick one to always fly with it would probably be SQ.

Thanks for the detailed comparison.

In terms of free upgrades I've gotten most from sq as pps Solitaire, with a reasonably high rate, few with nz as elite (all a long time ago), and least with qf as p1 (just 1 free so far).

Un-premium check in experience with qf this morning at mel dom intl connections.

When arrived there was a short premium queue and 2 agents serving premium, 6 serving economy with longer queue. The 2 agents on premium desks both left. One moved to a different desk that served economy and the other disappeared.

None of the 7 agents serving economy queue thought to invite premium pax forward. So economy pax that arrived later were being served more quickly than premium pax who had been waiting for 20 mins. The premium queue was getting quite long by now.

Eventually the couple at the front of the premium queue got so annoyed they approached one of the agents, who told them the computers were broken on the premium desks. The agents still didn't proactively invite premium pax forward.

Myself and the people in front of me only got served by rushing past economy pax who were headed to a vacant desk.

I’ve had this a few times - very frustrating, makes you seriously question the cost of loyalty, and meanwhile it’s eating into your lounge time if not risking getting onto the flight. I don’t like pushing in front of regular pax but will be forced to do so when my connection is in jeopardy and staff aren’t willing to call us forward to fix things sensibly.

This one is new to me, do emails like this get sent out whenever your status drops a level. Also in the header I wonder who Madeline Blaise is her FF No. is different to mine and her status renewal is May 2023. I wonder if the mail merge went wrong or is Madeline Blaise the generic name QF has adopted similar to C F Frost for Amex.

Another thing I noticed since dropping is the points earn on the Wellbeing App, I was a P1 when this was introduced and signed up to the trial. Much to my surprise after the trial period (30/60/90 days?) expired I continued to earn points at the full rate despite never taking out QF insurance. Now I have dropped to WP the earn rate on the app has also dropped to .1 of a point. I always thought it may have been a glitch in the system as on average I would earn close to 400 points every week for sleeping, closing rings and hitting the daily cycle goal. The daily cycle goal was manufactured as I do not own a bicycle but I had found an app that integrated with the Wellbeing App and I just uploaded a daily riding distance of 50km+ for months in advance. It was good while it lasted.

Attachment doesn't seem to be working unfortunately

From the sounds of things, mail merge gone wrong...

Stuck near The Rocks in Sydney the other week (post lunch) and needed to do some urgent work zoom meetings. Never ever thought to use the P1 MCA benefit before but it came in handy that day. Quiet lounge with tea & coffee. Nice views out to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge (unfortunately the lighting wasn't good to capture the view with the lounge).

Not one to schedule a visit to unless at the MCA or near the area and need a quiet room, but useful none the less.IMG_6928.jpeg

That's interesting, chooms.
When I was there for an exhibition in May, we were told - by several staff members - that the lounge no longer operated.
Good to hear that you could access it.

During my delayed BKK-SYD flight (which ended up being delayed more than a day) I called the VIP line, having heard of miracles where they’ll book pax on other carriers, but it was not to be and I joined the same delayed flight as everyone else. It was not a case of the VIP team knowing more what was going on than the airport agents.

I also contacted them about being downgraded to Y on the last domestic sector. They responded a few days later to process the difference and it’s landed in my account already.

Thanks for the information / comparison. Interesting for me to read as a rusted on QF flyer.

Interestingly I've just taken my first couple of flights on SQ as a KF Gold (status match) and can see why a lot of people rave about SQ (particularly when I compare to my recent QF flights). Unfortunately I don't think my regular travel patterns would allow me to reach PPS Solitaire.

Back on a P1 note, I re qualified for another year so will be P1 until at least March 25. Very surprised as I had thought that my current year was going to be my last!

For those of you who have QBR, when you get a VIP team upgrade, does that affect the way the QBR points post?
Does anything similar happen with points upgrades?

Does anyone have an email for for Qantas loyalty higher up than those who answer online enquiries?

I just an a 1 month interaction over the $100 wine voucher for P1s that was originally on the QF wine site. I brought it to their attention asking them about the voucher. I had a feeling that it might have been a mistake left on the website but thought I would query it.

Instead of apologising that it was a mistake and there would be no voucher, they're aruging that I've misunderstood the website. I've noticed that they've actually updated the website and removed the original wording. It's fairly poor form and quite shocking. I don't even want the voucher anymore but as a matter of principle, I think they should own up to their mistakes.

Lucky for them, I have a screenshot.
