Qantas Points Club Discussion

Qantas Wine may not be a reliable indicator as there are other possible sources - some popular credit cards (e.g. Qantas Ultimate Amex and Qantas Money Premier Plat), or linking an Accor Gold (or higher) account to QFF will upgrade one to Qantas Wine Premium without them knowing...

Good point, I do have a Qantas Ultimate AMEX.

However I just checked my lounge invitations and noticed I’ve been given two extra invites expiring 20 Feb 23 (in addition to another pair granted a few weeks ago which would be the AMEX). All indications point to being in Points Club.

I read your initial email as “Look how close you are? Just 7,000 more points and all this is yours!” However it seems you have been granted a points Club, especially receiving the lounge passes. Don’t question, just accept.

Well I called QF - just wanted to make sure it wasn't a glitch otherwise I'd try and get the other 7K.

She said nope, definitely Points Club member and will retain for the rest of this membership year and next. I'm guessing there was some kind of manual intervention due to being so close (and previous years I've often just missed out).

Anyway, will stop questioning it now. An unexpected outcome.

Edit: I'm gonna get the wine anyway. It can't hurt....

I'm going to be booted out of Points Club next week due to not meeting the 150,000 points requirement, but I was wondering if I would still earn status credits on any future reward bookings I fly after that anniversary date?

Looking to fly international in April, so tossing up I book a reward flight before that deadline or not. Any experience would be helpful.

No, you don't.

Presumably not but don‘t know if we have a data point on someone booking an award while PC but flying after a downgrade. I wouldn’t hold out for special treatment.

No, you have to be PC at the time of flying to earn SC.

I was going to be making a dash for PC+ again after dropping off, but now that my gold has been extended out a year, might adjust things slightly to hit it next year to get lounge access the year after.

I've had Points Club Plus for the past year, and have just met the 350,000 points threshold for it to be rolled over for another year, however I've haven't received any of the benefits for the 2nd year - no lounge passes, no wine vouchers, no hotel vouchers, etc. In the app it says "retained points club plus" and I've earned 368,000 pts towards points club this membership year (1st May 2021 - 30 Apr 2022).

Do you think I will automatically receive the benefits (hotel, wine, lounge passes, etc in early May) as that is the start of the new membership year?

If you are not already, you need to be signed up for all relevant promotional emails… like wine and accommodation, etc. I qualified but had ‘opted out’ from marketing and got nothing. An email to QFFF rectified it and I got all my vouchers.

So a conundrum facing me - i have some MEL CBR trips to book.

Do i pay $200 for each one way ticket and bank the 20SC or do I burn some points for a business reward and take almost as many (16SC) for $50 taxes and a much better ride?

Well, there's a double status credit promotion on right now so you'll actually get 40 and 32 SC respectively :)

Sorry I wasn't clear - I meant 20SC with the double promo applied (Not sure if double SC apply to points club redemptions - perhaps someone can advise). Either way, as a general question, if one has many points to burn - I imagine its best to get the business reward and pick up the SC's.

EDIT - according to the double SC thread, peoples past experience has been they do pick up double SC as a points club member for redemptions. Thats made my choice even easier :)

You won't get lounge passes as the benefit for Points Club Plus is QC membership (that isn't transferrable). Wine vouchers come at the start of the month of your birthday, and your hotel voucher will likely be sent within 21 days of your new membership year starting.

Good to know re the double SC/Point on redemption during the promo. And the choice of paid fare vs redemption always comes down to the perceived value of the point, which can only be determined by you. The "value" is going to be different for each person. In my current circumstances, with abundant points in my account, I am suing points for all my travel where a classic award can be obtained. So far this year that include BNE-NTL return and BNE-ROK return for Mrs NM and myself, and we have BNE-MEL return booked for later in the year. Maybe I should cancel the BNE-MEL and re-book to get the bonus?? Hmm,l perhaps not worth the risk of losing the award inventory given I am not going to earn enough SC's to exceed my LTG status anyway, and LTP won't be reach until I am 130 years old.

Charm at QFF (offshore, obviously) told me today that Points Club members earn points not status credits on classic awards. So there.
I am points club plus, and flew to MEL and back just this past weekend, on classic reward tickets.
I got 18 SC for each flight but hubby & daughter who are not PC received nothing.
The rate of SC on rewards flight is about half of paid ticket. BUT you do get SC.

Yes, but others may take it as gospel, and I think a few think that you get FULL SC on rewards flights, where as you dont.
Especially on the DSC thread.
