Qantas Points Club Discussion

PC+ is about four mid level credit card sign up bonuses. Anyone into churning should find that quite straightforward.
If you time it right, though! staggering those 12 and 18 month exclusion periods, and the 2-4 month delay to award the bonus points, quickly becomes a semi-complex spreadsheet.

Plus, the main PC+ benefit (imo) is the SC rollover and you only get that once in your qualification year into the next, not the following year (and there's no soft landing).

There are maybe ten or more cards that have sign up bonuses. It should be easy to schedule four of them in a year. I keep a list of lock out dates but it is a Word file not a complex spreadsheet. My year rolls over in three days' time. I expect to be at 250,000 points by the first week of March and to have requalified by the end of April.

As I have posted previously, I do not care about SCs as I will never fly (enough) revenue to earn meaningful status. I would value the QP membership if I flew even the occasional revenue/economy QF flight but I don't. I think the only real benefits I get are bonus points from hotel stays and the annual $100 hotel voucher. I would not pursue PC+ except that I am pursuing the points anyway.

Where does it say the SC rollover only happens once?
I'll be glad to be proven wrong on this, but in my experience I didn't get a rollover in the year when I dropped from PC+ to nothing (i.e. the year I didn't requalify for either PC or PC+).

Wording on the website is:

^ A maximum of 100 Status Credits will roll over to Points Club Plus members’ next Membership Year. Status Credits that are rolled over will contribute to attaining or retaining a member’s tier status, except for attaining or retaining Platinum One status

Right, I think that's probably right, but if you retain PC+ you would get the rollover each year (granted it is hard to keep earning 350k year on year especially as you're limited to 20k points from flying).

As long as you keep requalifying to PC+, rollover applies, years to years.

I’m probably going to requal PC again after < 6 mth thanks to some wine bargains and some “apology” points maxing out the 20k flying quota (in the 1st month). I usually comfortably get to 150k on or around month 11 or 12 but based on usual earn it will closer to 200K+ at membership year end.

I’m pondering the cost benefit of going for Gold (aka PC+) for the extra 100 SCs rollover next year. A further 150k to then hit PC+ will be a stretch (I don’t churn) and that’s a lot of wine (at least $4k-$5k)!

I‘m probably just better off booking some longish domestic J reward flights (especially if a DSC offer lands)?

PS Free QP membership has zero use/value as I’m LTG.

It's probably heresy but I cannot see any point in spending actual money to qualify for PC+ just for rolling over 100 SCs when you would need to add to that with spending a lot more actual money to get Platinum status. I mean, WP would be nice but basically you get to sit in nicer lounges (is that really worth thousands of dollars to you?) and earlier access to QF reward seats that might even cost less than you spend chasing the status you needed to access them.

Yes, that's my thoughts - especially given the extra benefits are not commensurate with the cost/effort (for my circumstances).

I usually get WP off normal flying but thanks to the initial status extensions, I took the opportunity to burn a bunch of SQ and QF points for trips this year and some forward bookings next year. Alas, a July QF year means no more extensions....

Hmmm exactly 6 months to make up the balance 26,840 for PC+ for the 3rd year.
The first 2 years needed a case of wine to get me over the line a week before 30 June.
Looks like those tax bills this year have made this year easy to obtain. Just wish you could "bank" any amounts over the 350,000 for next year, like I am doing with my Woolworths rewards.

Amex plat charge, perfect for banking!

Just keep in mind that even if you do re-qualify for PC+, only the status credits earned in the previous membership year will roll over ie if status credits have already been rolled over once, they won’t be rolled over for a second year.

Potential reasonable earner $798 (less any Wine voucher) for 30K FF pts and bonus case of wine.

Buying 30k directly is $900+ and don’t count towards PC/PC+

I can’t speak for the wines themselves. You can also get 3x 10k for $600 - $900 spending on other sales throughout the year.

I just completed a survey from Qantas FF, on how the Points Club is going for me. Going through the questions, I didn't realise that being a Points Club member provided priority access to the Frequent Flyer Service centre - although I suppose that doesn't cover if I'm having issues with flights (?)

But the possible future offerings looked interesting. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Yep. Priority phone line came a few months ago (mentioned up thread) but not aware of any special announcement. But it’s there on the list of benefits.

Additional SC - yes
Additional points promo/discounted CR tickets - yes

This is interesting.

1. Does this also provide access to HBA/AKL?
2. Is it PC or PC+ that qualifies for the priority access?

What would be good is if there is any benefits to using the F lounge as PC/PC+ ex-SYD/MEL?
