Qantas Points Club Discussion

How does the Points Club Plus lounge membership benefit work for Qantas Gold members? Do you get the lounge membership for the current membership year + next membership year or for just 12 months?
Points Club was intended to offer some crumbs to people who do not get status but still amass lot of points. It is inferior to status, so it’s a bit weird that status members would complain about missing out. They still get wine and hotel vouchers if they like that sort of thing.

But LTGs have been around since then. I doubt my residual QP membership lost in annals of time would be extended if I bothered going for PC+ 😳

Hopefully something comes of that survey mentioned earlier!
Yes, it’s been awhile since the survey. I would still prefer to receive lounge passes that I can gift. Gifting the PC+ QP membership was one of the options, I think. I don’t know anyobe who can use it, but I’m sure I could give it away on AFF.

You are quite right. However, even frequent flyers can also be big spenders too, so shouldn’t they receive equal reward? I am happy with the wine and hotel vouchers, to either use or give away. I’m not complaining about the lack of being able to use the QP membership, just stating a fact. After all, the shopping PC+ probably still fly sometimes, so can use the QP.

I don’t think many are complaining as such just that it doesn’t make pursuing PC+ that attractive for SG and above (other than the additional vouchers and SCs).

I’m quite happy with just PC and earning SCs on reward flights. The vouchers are added perks. The QP passes are of no personal value but can be gifted at least.

I don't think anyone has dropped from Gold/Plat since Points Club launched in Mar 2020 due to the extensions, so we don't have any data points. But it's certainly not a published benefit.
I was PC+ and became gold in the status challenge early covid. Didn't hear anything about qp via PC+ being paused.

I would love to gift the qp or passes to Mrs excel who very occasionally travels without me.

I believe I read that the paid QP membership is paused while holding PC+, not the entry benefit of having Gold status.

A quick question. Do you only get the Hotel voucher on Qualification?

I'm pursuing the strategy of earning PC a week or three into my Qantas "year" and having PC for the next 23 months.

I am into my 13th month and another voucher has not appeared (or been emailed).

On first qualification, I believe you get vouchers (but things have been changing).

If / when you requalify, vouchers post on or around your QFF membership year.

My Qantas membership year is six weeks old. No new voucher but note, i did not requalify.
But you did just qualify for PC since the beginning of your member year? If so, you ought to get some vouchers now/soon.

If "My QFF" is showing you as PC, then earning SCs on reward flights should be good to go - I'm assuming that's the main attraction?

I qualified at the beginning of December 2021. My Qantas "year" begins 1st November every year.

My scheme - Qualify once, get PC for ~23 months. Then deliberately fail to requalify. 24 months later, requalify. This way I only need to dig up 150K¹ points every 24 months.

¹ Really it's 130K as the 20K from the air is a doddle ...

Ah, I see. In that case I’d expect you only get one set of vouchers (Hotel, Wine and QP passes) on initial qualification. Nothing in the new QF member year. Which is probably the only disadvantage to your strategy if SC earn is the primary objective.

Thinking about it now, it’s a shame they don’t have a slightly lower bar for requal?

Hi folks two questions:

When I first attained PC, I received a Qantas hotels voucher in Nov 2021 and unfortunately realised it just expired a couple of weeks ago. Has anyone had any experience with Qantas extending leniency on the 12-month voucher expiry? Given the still reduced pace of travel the 12-monthy expiry is frustrating - it caught up on me.

Edit: Answering my own question, I phoned Qantas Hotels, and after checking with a supervisor they agreed to reissue the voucher for another 6 months as a "one-time courtesy."

Secondly, I have requalified Points Club for this year but no voucher yet. Am I correct in that for subsequent years, I need to wait until the end of the QFF year (which for me is Dec 31, so not too far off) to get new vouchers?

yes

Just curious in regard to PC+, do any points that are earned over and above the 350k limit ...rollover and count/help towards retention in your next qualifying year? I'm probably going to hit a 420k earn this year.

PC+ qualification initially, it might be easier to retain for some, given the higher points earn with Qantas hotels, which becomes a better proposition generally when you have the vouchers to spend. Not to mention the cheaper wine...
But if it's from churning credit cards, health insurance and utilities, it will seem to be a lot of work second time around!

PC+ is about four mid level credit card sign up bonuses. Anyone into churning should find that quite straightforward.
