Qantas Points Club Discussion

I'm going to be attempting this when the next DSC opens up.

Booking a bunch of QF award flights with Avios to attempt to get PC SCs (indeed, DSCs).

Not 100% sure it will work, but will give it a go. My main concern is making sure my QFF number is attached to the booking. I'm hoping Qantas' system checks that at the time of flight rather than the time of booking, because it can be hard to add a QFF number to a BA award at the time of booking.

I hope you don't invest too deeply in this experiment.

My reading of that is that the rewards must be Qantas Classic Flight Rewards - i.e. not booked through partner airlines' reward schemes.
Yes, but there's the terms, and there's the reality... so long as they are not providing less than the terms, then no-one would say anything. If it's a QF flight number in P,U,Z or X class (not sure how CX or other partners issue QF awards?), and you are a PC member, I wonder if it might just credit regardless.

I'm not too worried about that. I don't think Qantas' SC-awarding system picks up the booking channel. A bit like with DSCs, it doesn't matter how you book it — you can even book a flight on AA.com during the DSC period and pick up DSCs if you input your QFF number and it is a QF flight.

It does ...

The maximum that is needed for PC crediting on an Award flights is:
- Award Booking Class
- Qantas Flight Number (operating carrier/metal is irrelevant)
- Frequent Flyer number with Qantas Points Club status at the time of travel in the booking.

Yep. You should be able book a LH RTW fare with QF sectors and still earn DSCs (for anyone thinking about doing that).

I also thought (but haven’t gone back) that someone has previously reported earning SCs on AA (and/or BA) redemption.

These are different scenarios. Using QFF points for a “classic flight reward” on a partner airline (OW and non-OW) invariably booked into the operating carriers code. Apart from a few exceptions to that, you wouldn’t expect to earn SCs.

Similarly, booking a reward flight on QF using another OW or non-OW FF scheme should book with the QF code. If you can get your QFF number in against that booking, then potentially you should (and some have said they have) earn SCs courtesy of PC.

I would agree that the main thing with reward seats booked through CX, BA or whoever are that the QFF# is in the booking when flown. The booking classes for reward (ie: P/U/Z/X) are the same no matter where booked through and the currency used so I would think with the key being for PC/PC+ credit being the QFF number that's the important part.

Having written that I wouldn't rely on it, though I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Yes yes (I did not report it but … for one of the two mentioned carriers but without QF flight number) 😉

Thanks for the inputs - I indeed replaced my MPFF# with my QFF# while booking and it shows up as such on the booking e-Ticket from Amadeus. I will report back on around 12 March.

With BA, I've heard the trick is to click 'book for someone else' when booking online. That allows you to put in your name and your QFF number. Not sure how I'm going to do it as I'll need to call up BA to book some as they involve QantasLink flights, but I've heard BA can also change it over the phone — TBD how easy it is in practice!

That was the unmentionable 3rd scenario 🤫

But the earning table does allude to the possibility. Maybe intended as part of a 081- ticketed flight from Oz with onward connections.

I think I've been comped with Points Club even though I didn't have enough at the end of my year - Jan 31st.

I did fly on an award ticket LHR SIN SYD ADL and it's showing in my transactions but no SC attached.

How long do they normally take for the SC to show up?

Mine have showed up as they would any other flight - often before I even land. I've never had the transactions appear without the SCs

When requalifying PC+, is the 100$ voucher sent shortly after requilifying, or after the end of the membership year? I couldn't find a clear answer (granted that Qantas might have changed the timing of issuing this voucher).

I believe it was discussed earlier up thread that requal benefits land on or around anniversary date.

For the first time, recently (about 1 mth ago) I requal’d PC well before my anniversary date (ie 6mths in) and apart from the banner congratulating me, nothing new has appeared. I assume if I were to get to PC+ (unlikely) the additional benefits would appear sooner.
