Qantas Points Club Discussion

EDIT - GONE

This is a repeat of a deal I did last year.

I have just got my two $50 wine vouchers as a PC+ member. I do not drink so I have no use for the vouchers.

Looking at the Qantas Wine site, they have an attractive deal on bonus points for Reschke Armenta Museum Release 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon coupled with an attractive sale price. Basically, a bottle of $100 wine, 2,500 points and free delivery for $9.00 plus a $50 voucher.

If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to order a bottle of the wine to be sent to them if they reimburse me the $9 when the wine arrives. They get the wine, I get the points.

Potentially two bottles could be bought this way.

Please PM me if interested. I would prefer to send to a residential address please - last year I sent to a PO Box address that caused headaches.

It wasn't tied to any specific transaction as there was no combination of transactions that added up to the discrepancy amount, the total was just off.
Yes, unfortunately I cant find any combination of transactions that add up to the current 1,533 discrepancy.

Getting it fixed was by far the most difficult and frustrating thing I have ever had to do dealing with Qantas Frequent Flyer. It took 6 months of consistent calls, followups and promised callbacks that never eventuated and complaints to finally get it resolved.

Very sorry to hear that, and not looking forward to starting that process myself.

With luck I will hit 150k without needing the missing points, but the perfectionist in me is endlessly frustrated re the error and would love to know route cause to insist it be fixed.

I wonder how many people incorrectly missed out on PC or PC+ because some valid points earn was not included?

My guess is very few people. Those to whom PC matters would just find a way of getting over the line by the end of the year - or miss by an insurmountably large margin.

By the bye, I had some points arrive from Qantas Insurance on 1 January (my new year date) and they didn’t count to PC, presumably because they related to a transaction that nominally fell in the previous year.

However, given the inability to pinpoint which points will and wont count due to an error somewhere which cant yet be pinpointed you can never be completely confident those "other ways" will hit or post in time.

Also some of us are working under tighter constraints than others.

In any other year Id churn a CC and no worries, but cant do so atm so every $ spent on a points earning CC, woolies point and red planet has become precious and annoying when they are legit and are not all being recognised.

I do not think it is unreasonable to expect PC correctly track all points per their own published eligibility rules.

That would be applying a higher standard to PC IT processing than Qantas IT processing.
Personally, I don’t understand why there would be a discrepancy unless there are some other exclusions that aren’t immediately obvious.

Unfortunately, having things like QF Well Being tossing points across every other week, it’s going to be hard to see what’s not posting but I’ll see if I can catch one… A task a lot easier at the start of one’s membership year than halfway through.

No merely looking for the same standard. I've never had an issue with QF IT awarding correct points and SCs for published activities.

Sure Ive had to lodge a couple of Original Routing Credit claims where I've been put on direct flights instead of longer booked, and the booking engine is full of gremlins and web page can be flakey, but QF IT IME usually processes points correctly.

In this case they know about the earn as it shows up in "My Activity" so should be a no brainer to flow through to PC.

I spent a couple of hours looking at this today, and there is no combination of transactions that add up to the missing points, so as dylarr said its random (and inexcusable).

A couple hours plus time spent on the past over couple thou points.

Surely your time could be better spent elsewhere in life... There so many vaguries where QF points can be attributed to.

Im currently in ISO at home as have been very unwell and I considered it a puzzle to try and identify the culprits but there arent any obvious ones. Was good to work through the brain fog by dusting off the old coding skills, to write a procedure to look for the required combinations.

And had I identified something concrete, I would have shared the insight here.

Your condescension about how I spend my time is just petty and ill informed. FYI doing data analysis is great for keeping ones brain agile, some people do sudoku but those are no longer any challenge for me.

Not meant to sound condescending. Obviously spending hours trying to pinpoint few QF points is not value for time in our short life in this beautiful world.

Apologies I didn't realise you were in iso.

Sudoku not challenging for you, really C'mon.... How does that sound?

Thanks for the heads up! I've just bought multiple bottles to burn vouchers I had. PC+ brings it down to $53 per bottle.

FWIW just checked the 145 transactions I've had in the 3 months of this membership year and PC total is accurate. Flights correctly capped at 20k including the Qantas Business Rewards 250 point flyer bonuses, flight refunds excluded.

What categories are your “On the ground” earn?

I have (so far):

Food & Wine (EDR, QF Wine)

Cards and banking (credit cards)

Health, leisure and entertainment (QF Well-being)

Insurance (QF Well-being checks and stuff)

Phone, utilities and services (Red Planet Surveys)

Others (Green bonus on some wine)

Fuel and cars (Uber and Avis)

Hotels and travel (QF Hotels including bonus PC points)

Shopping (Tassie offset and an AirBnB promo - not sure why the later landed here)

Flying is already maxed at 20k.

Not in front of spreadsheet ATM but think I have all of the above except for:
- any bonus points from qf wine
- hotels
- Airbnb
- avis

Nice for you, if only we all were so lucky.

I first noticed the discrepancy on 1st Dec but as my year started 1 Aug I dont know exactly when the gap first appeared, wondering if there are phantom transactions in backend somewhere, but I will monitor and hope the gap doesnt grow.

Absolutely - just thought this datapoint might be a helpful start to your investigations. Checked my spreadsheet again and the only other categories not covered by @SYD or mentioned above are "Qantas health insurance quote incentive" and "Green tier quiz & challenges".

I'm the same start date as you, so yep - a bit hard to track down the glitch almost halfway through the year. That bug in the points earn summary page (member year starting 12 July - for me) doesn't help either. I probably would have spotted the error sooner but doing a simple compare of points earn YTD and PC tally

Anyway, I'm not overly concerned - yet.

Oh, literally as I was typing I checked my account and a "QF Well Being" points posted today and my total QF earn total incremented but the Points Club running tally hasn't updated (I took a screen shot of both yesterday)...

EDIT: Oops. I refreshed the app and the PC tally updated also...

🤔

The ones that always tripped me up were where I'd referenced my QFF number whilst online shopping at a merchant I'd use fairly often, like eBay or Myer, and then points would show up and credit to the running balance but not the PC tally, as it was for a purchase from ages ago, crediting late. I wouldn't necessarily think to check them as I would always have had a purchase in my recent past and think it was that. I'm sure you've already checked transaction / activity dates on everything (which you can't export with the points data, to my knowledge), but certainly a trap for newer players!

Cheers
Matt.

Bingo!

I don’t have any shopping points (yes, they can take an eternity) but one of my QF Hotel stays and associated bonus points activity was indeed from the previous member year.

But I’m now 31 pts in front! 🤔

Well, subject to a recount. There might be another QF Well-being post I missed…😁
