I had no issues with my application, they called me 2 days after my application went in to confirm some details and was approved minutes later. Met the spend within the first 2 weeks and points have posted with the first statement. Very easy.

What was the card turnaround like from approval to receiving it in the post? I am waiting for St George to update with credit agencies that I closed their card in DEC before I apply for this card. 7th of the month seems to be when St George update.

Had to check back through my emails;
Applied 20/11
Approved 23/11
Card arrived / First spend 29/11
First statement 25/12 with Bonus points

The approval email came through on a Friday and there was a follow up email on Monday 26/11 saying that my card has been posted and should arrive within 7 days.

Met the $3,500 spend in the first statement period and the 70,000 QF points were added to my account as soon as I reach it. BOOM! :)

Aaargh, I just got this card at the end of last week under the previous offer. Is it worth me calling and asking them to reduce the annual fee?

Sorry I forgot to update this thread but I did call and they agreed to halve the annual fee (but not up the points to match the current promotion). I hit the required spend in month 2 and the bonus points were credited immediately.

I had to laugh at my wife's application for this card (and am definitely not surprised due to the pain I've gone through with Citibank in the past). Applied and provided all relevant documentation straight away. Heard nothing, so after 7 business days she called to follow up...and yes, she is very forward with stupid questioning!

Citibank - "How long have you been living in AU?"
Wife - "My whole life."
Citibank - "So you haven't lived in any other country?"
Wife - "No."
Citibank - "So how many years exactly have you lived in AU?"
Wife - "You've got my DOB there don't you? Almost 30 years."
Citibank - "Oh OK, so should I put down 29 years or 30 years?"
Wife - "I have no idea, what does it matter? I've lived in AU since I was born!"
Citibank - "And what other addresses have you lived at other than the one on your application?"
Wife - "How far back?"
Citibank - "Ummmm, maybe the last five addresses."
Wife - "Seriously? I don't remember my last five. Here's my last two prior to current one......"
Citibank - "OK. But you've lived in other addresses?"
Wife - "Yes"
Citibank - "And are those other addresses in other states."
Wife - "Yes. I was born in ACT but now live in NSW."
Citibank - "OK, we might need to look into that."
Wife - "Why? What do you actually want? This would move a lot quicker if you actually asked proper questions from which you need proper answers!"

And so it continued! They said another 3-5 business days before we hear from them. o_O

I had a similar call, although not as many questions.
  • Confirmed my income
  • Asked for previous addresses. I’ve lived at current address for 32 years and could only remember the previous suburb
  • Asked about other banks I am a customer of
  • Asked if I have an accountant or financial advisor. I don’t.
I am a retired public servant with a CSS pension considerably higher than the minimum income required for this card. I have no debt except for credit cards which I pay in full each month. I’ve read here that most people get approved immediately after similar calls but I was told I’d hear from them in 3 to 5 days. Have others who’ve had a similar delay eventually been approved? Maybe I’m worrying about nothing and this is just Citibank being Citibank.

Took me 2 weeks to be approved.

How easy was it for you to get them to accept your CSS pension payments?

This seems to be an issue across many of the providers, if you cannot supply payslips they seem to find it difficult to accept other types of income as your primary source of income.

With retirement fast approaching, I am wondering if I will in fact be able to continue in the churning game even with a 6 figure income

How easy was it for you to get them to accept your CSS pension payments?
I had no trouble with ANZ Black, St George Signature and DJ Amex. They accepted letter from CSS which advised of CPI increase. This letter states the fortnightly pension amount.

Couldn’t get ING Orange Visa as they only accept PAYG payslips. To be fair, they do state this as a requirement.

UPDATE: Was approved for Qantas Premier as well. One day after phone call not the 3 to 5 days quoted originally.

Having been knocked back some years ago by citi and not wanting to deal with them again, I just called the verifications team to ensure the same thing wouldn't happen again. I was assured I'd be fine and they would call me with anything they need to discuss. I have submitted an app. I will report.

Keep on them! My latest application with them took a long time to come through. It was due to them trying to get in contact with my employer over the xmas break. In the end they were happy for me to give them my number at work and call it. Would have saved a lot of time and effort if I did that in the first place :(

I received this card today and tried to pay my Vodafone bill. It was recognised as an international Mastercard with a surcharge of 3.005%. (I did not proceed with the payment). There was discussion about this issue early in this thread. Is this still a common issue or is Vodafone’s information out of date?

When I obtained my first card more than a year ago, another financial institution told me that the card was issued in Singapore. That matter was subsequently resolved for me. So, it seems like there are still issues.

Rang verifications team, to 'interpret' the docs I sent to them. Equifax credit enquiry done y'day - the day of application (Equifax does not show date of cc closures). Credit Savvy shows closures, but no enquiry on there as yet.

Submitted an application on Tuesday afternoon and just approved Friday afternoon. :)

what's the wait period before churning this card?

Not sure exactly. However, following card closure in December 2017, I was approved for another one in October 2018, and received the bonus QFF points offer. If that's of any help.

Got knocked back again. This is my second times in about 7 months. I thought it was almost done this time as I got a call asking for my medicare card, and if I send within a day I would be even eligible for an extra bonus of 5000 points... then silent until I called today to find out the bad outcome. I used to churn a Qantas premier, a Virgin flyer and a Citi rewards... after that it seems like I can never get hold of a Citi issued card again (got knocked back from High flyer, St Georges Amplify, and of course Qantas premier).

That’s a very odd request, I’d be worried if I got that request.

It is a legitimate request as Qantas confirmed it... just weird. Normally when I got a call from other card issuers like Anz or Amex, they would approve straight away after obtaining the extra info.

Medicare card is one of the verification methods that banks do use (License, Passport, Medicare). I believe they use it when they want to validate your details to a credit agency for a credit check? It may also be a KYC validation requirement.
