Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

I'm told the J seats will have sliding doors, although you can't really tell that from the artist's impression.

Looking at the picture, if you look closely the J seat pairs in the middle section are staggered in a different way, with every second row having seats at the aisles and seats directly beside each other in every other row. This is the same as the J configuration on aircraft like the EK A380 or IB A340 etc.
ET were saying “it appears there will be no doors”, so hopefully your source is correct.

What is this fixation with doors in J? I can't think of anything worse than spending 20hours slumbered in a coffin with the lid off and anyone passing peering in to see who the deceased is.

Firstly, you don't have to close the door. However, the main benefit is privacy and less disturbance. Have you tried them? I have on QR and love it. Would be a big improvement for seats that open on to the aisle where you're totally exposed.

QF will provide blankets that can be draped over the 'suite', thus ensuring a total privacy experience.(i)
(i) Blankets provided subject to availability and not being required for crew rest purposes.

Flight AIB151 (operated by A35X if that's the correct way to describe this new aircraft type - please educate me if incorrect) F-WMIL) is taxxing in SYD as at 1202 hours on Wednesday 4 May 2022.

Based on a conversation with key people at Qantas during the recent P1 coughtail party it was confirmed that there would be doors on the J suites.
Making the J suites proper "suites", finally!

How many years after other airlines thou had these J doors?

Other airlines by time QF fly these J doors will have other advancements in J cabin.

QF always seem to be behind the 8 ball continually.

Actually I think we're getting to the point where business is about as good as it will get. The innovations being made now aren't the leaps and bounds we've seen - the most exciting recently was Finnair removing things!

For hard product. Qantas soft product has a lo-o-o-ng way to go. Service & catering in First just before Covid was only marginally above J - IIRC the meals were about the same, and wines pretty cheap.

If Qantas gets even close to the offering on QR in terms of hard product and especially service & meals etc, I'll be on them in a shot (rewards anyway).

Absolutely agree however we're talking about hard product.

I do think the QF F wines are/were very good though.

If you're talking J, sure I'm 100% with you. Qantas F though I've always thoroughly enjoyed and find the service attitude and crews generally often better than in the oh so amazing Middle Eastern/ Asian carriers. Wines also tend to be pretty good but I agree that the food is below par and I miss proper Caviar service.

But again- I could hardly ever fault the crews and service on Qantas F- as a matter of fact, twice did I have the pleasure to change from an EK F service to a QF F service straight after and in both cases, I've found the crew on Qantas way more attentive and "human" as opposed to the more robotic service I had encountered on EK (yes, even in First). I delighted the Qantas crew both times by telling them so and they seemed very surprised so I seem to be a rare case (or just had luck/ bad luck with some of my flights).

I think overall I prefer the option of having the door for privacy. However I also think there are many other elements of the experience and service that rate much higher for me.

Could care less about the doors personally as the privacy provided in 99% of suites is sufficient for me.

I've also been on a Qatar suite and the door jammed which was highly annoying :)

Anyway airlines don't care about FF people scrimping and saving points and redeeming points and posting on forums like this. They care about rev fares from paying customers mostly business - and I think these Sunrise flights will be very popular in that crowd.

I think you were just lucky. After many F flghts both paid and on points on QF and EK, we've found Qantas F service particularly on the LHR route (staffed by crew from London I believe) to be quite poor. (Service on Pacific route is much better.) Food and particularly wines are just passable as a J serve, definately not for F. Service is not a patch on EK crews who answer a call button within 8 seconds. Also meals on EK are on demand, not scheduled as they try to do on QFF so the crew and sit and do nothing. Would not choose QF F if there was an alternative anymore. YMMV
