Qantas slashing jobs and possibly selling FF program?

I know myself I'm very pleased with the EK partnership and once the a330 refurb is done I'll have few complaints

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

Sometimes the best way to get some action is to create a crisis.

Alan Joyce is creating a crisis possibly to make his point and get some Govt action on raising capital.

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

Or has Geoff Dixon and Singo cut the board in on their private equity bid, so now the need to reduce the share price to make it workable?

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

For all the Borghetti fans, who is to say he would do anything differently? Very easy from the sidelines to say who was better

Mind you, JB still hasn't got VA profitable so he isn't exactly getting the results he promised

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

I was never aware of that.
You can only speculate as to the thoughts of regret that some board members of QF must now have.

"Make no mistake: this is personal. After all, the Italian-born Borghetti, 58, missed out on the top job at Qantas to Joyce.
In June 2009, Borghetti and Qantas' then finance chief, Peter Gregg, joined Joyce in New York for a two-day Qantas board meeting.
While Joyce got a chance to make his case to the board for the top job, Borghetti and Gregg were astonished to discover they would not get the same opportunity.
Less than a year later Borghetti left Qantas, and scored the top gig at Virgin in May 2010."

The Qantas board shafted Borghetti. Now they should get the shaft themselves. I gotta say, not even getting a chance to interview and make the case to the board for the top job is a real slap in the face.

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

Those have already happened for Adelaide and Perth people...

Exactly - Qantas wasn't loyal to me so I'm not loyal back. Try and get on a SQ or CX flight out of Perth some days. Especially J.

Their actions certainly made it easier to book other airlines. Fortunately Adelaide options to do so appear easier than for Perth.

Add to that the ridiculous impost QF puts on the identical flights on Emirates metal cf with cost of booking Emirates direct (a few thousand different) then it's a no brainer.

But I think they are just looking for a Government handout.

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

Totally agree that Joyce has been outwitted by Borghetti. I think QF passing over Borghetti was a big mistake. I still can't believe how Joyce was afforded an interview for the QF CEO job, but the same opportunity was not afforded to other applicants including Borghetti.

was that Geoff Dixons call? Wasn't he the guy that wanted to sell the airline to Godon Gecko? In cohorts with chairman Jackson?

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

I personally see where Joyce is coming from here with regards to foreign government run airlines funding Virgin. It isn't quite fair. A lot of people love to bash Joyce but they have no idea of what's going on behind the scenes. I don't know how to run an airline other than online games and most here bashing him don't either.

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

To improve our airline it simply means that us loyal servants need to be willing to fly more often at higher prices.
Ask not what Qantas can do for you but what you can do for Qantas!

All we can do is observe changes that are being made. One of which was to stop International flights from Adelaide and Perth.

Ask not what Qantas can do for you but what you can do for Qantas!

I'd always choose Qantas internationally but Qantas don't want me to do that.

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

The sooner the better - for long suffering QF customers, shareholders and even the Abbott govt!
A bit harsh, Dixon and Co were going to gear it up and sell it to Private Equity, then run away with theior millions. How long do you think QF would have lasted then?

If that deal succeeded the airline would've been nationalised a few years after. Still get a chuckle how a lone greedy dummy in Texas blew all those $$Millions for QF management:lol:

Because they were losing them money....

Re: Qantas to cut 1,000 Jobs.

Then why does SQ and Cathay continually increase their Adelaide service?

If you haven't worked out yet how hub systems work then you will never know. They serve Adelaide from their global hub. Qantas' hub is Sydney, Adelaide is served by qantas to Sydney and then onwards.

Yes I know about hubs. But if Qantas aren't willing to serve all of Australia then maybe all of Australia isn't there to support them. And a delay of at least three hours plus travel time getting to Sydney etc isn't on when there are other options.

I've seen a lot of selling Jetstar talk, but I don't see why you'd want to sell an LCC that does well (supposedly - who knows if they'd fare so well paying for their own planes/maintenance) and make them a competitor.

The 2-brand strategy is good, they just need to tweak it to bring loyalty back.

As for QFi, they definitely need to cut routes that aren't earning, even if that means losing say, the kangaroo route and instead pushing into the US more. They can always come back when they work out how to make the route work.

I'm not burning points, well, not more than my JASA's I booked earlier in the week.
