Haha. In case people are wondering, the explanation is here. There's a little bit to read but has everything to know on the matter.

Thanks for that . Have to wait till 22nd. Still has to do four flights. Which hopefully won't be a problem

Qantas are almost going to need to do a regional calculation given the Victorians cant actually go anywhere for the moment.

1. If they didn't offer these status boosts to keep members engaged, they risk loosing them to other frequent flyer programs. Remember Qantas is not planning to fly internationally until April 2021. By that time, people travelling internationally will have tried the competitors and may have realised that the grass is greener. Even after Qantas start flying again, they may decide to stay with their newfound frequent flyer program (habits are sticky).
Whilst I agree with your overall sentiment I’m not so sure about the above.

Realistically Qantas has cancelled international flights for as long as they have because I am sure they know the borders will be closed to all but the odd exception for sometime to come. So I wouldn’t think they would be too worried about people flying other airlines and loosing their loyalty to Qantas or QFF.

Until the borders are reopened it's simply not viable for QF to fly internationally without significant subsidisation from the government.

funny but...

seriously.

right now tome (stuck in Leperland) it is a bit irrelevant in respect of this. Nobody really is flying. Yes, sure there's a few going between NSW (non hotspots) and QLD, and intra-state travel in places like WA and QLD, but honestly it's far from normal.

I am pretty sure WHEN 9not if :) ) Vic come through this current situation, even if we go stage 4 lockdown (which seems likely) the travel situation, in a general sense, will still not really be close to normal, and indeed NSW could be in a similar place or even QLD (who knows?! I don't want that, but it could happen)... so realistically while we can't travel out right now.. how many are doing regular travel now as it is? Not many.

In say 3 months things may look very different.. and I hope that's in a very positive way for us all :)

Not to mention the Government effectively “banning” (with limited exemptions) most Australian citizens/permanent residents from leaving the country, until who knows when. Likely to remain until next year sometime, for the most part. So, pretty much no QF international, anyway.

Exactly. Which other airlines would we consider flying, while most of us are “banned” from leaving the country anyway. 😀

In 3 months the travel from VIC to Far North Queensland would be pretty much a complete write off for the peak season for this year. Considering that over half of the normal domestic travel to there comes from VIC that's a big drop off.

We'll see how long it is before QF offers further boosts.

Qatar. If our son can get an exit permit then we have already discussed that.

That’s all well and good. But any airline or passengers that are looking for new loyalty based on exemptions for pax to fly won’t be a threat to QF. 😉

Sure. But that wasnt the question you asked 😁

yes sure.. cold mexicans escaping to the warm is a huge leisure market, plus all those junket conferences at OOL and further north during the winter months.

Look everything has been trashed in so many ways the year more or less it seems is a write off for many - both business and leisure travel and all the rest. This is a given.

All my comment was meant to imply that in 3 months depending on how things pan out we could be contemplating summer domestic travel, or we may not.

And yes as a freezing Mexican who usually is up north at this time of year I wish I was too and miss it.. but in the grand scale of everything going on in the world, and for people personally.. it's pretty minor imo.

Yes. You may have taken the comment in my post in isolation. 🤭

I was responding to a post by ajw373. My post was in agreement with ajw373’s comment regarding people flying other airlines and QF not being too worried about losing loyalty with international border closure and cancelled flights. 😀

Given travel patterns/frequency is likely going to be changed for quite a significant time (years), then getting to LTS, LTG is going to be made extremely more difficult for the vast majority. For that reason alone I am not surprised these free SC's provided count toward Lifetime tiers.
