Qantas Status Credits Boost

To all the people talking about not being able to fly by xx_ date because of current (and certain future) border closures, changes, covidmess etc...

QF has obviously set up this system with this current situation in mind.

In my view there is little need to be anxious about this stuff. The StatusKeeper ("Support") payments and the Boost clearly are designed with a medium term outlook in mind. This is the first step.

QFF know that there will be probably nill int travel prior to March next year (not just them, but partners). There may be some domestic recovery by end of the year or even March, but the way things are going with this current "Second wave"(or whatever you want to call it) it seems less and less likely.

So sure, I understand (specially being in MEL!!!) but I absolutely believe the intent here is to cover for this as long as it goes because we're currently in the "how long is a piece of string?" moveable feast of having no real idea when this will be over.

QF will do more as we head into next year I am certain of it. They have already proved their intent back in March with the extensions when the world looked one way, and now 4 months later they've made another move. I highly suspect this was worked on before the Melbourne situation happened in the past 2-3 weeks which is now spilling into NSW and has forced more changes. Start of June things looked much more rosy for re-openings on a general scale for travel in current school hols through to end of the year. That's clearly out the window. I still feel sure that the system QF has set up will be extended further.

Yes it's been swings and roundabouts for people with earlier in the year status anniversaries and as the year goes on more and more people will roll over and start feeling the same. QF knows this.

And really, at the end of the day, there's very very little we can do about it until things change for the better in a significant way. I try to not get too worked up about what will happen in 3 months, 6 months etc because this year and the past month or so in particular have shown us that whatever you think is going to happen is probably NOT going to be that way so I'm not going to worry about it too much until I can influence it myself. That's just me.

I know there are still people unhappy with what QF has done. Honestly I find this perplexing but that's just me and my view. from what I have seen other major carriers have done so far this is the "best of both worlds" now solution or setup with extensions and effectively half price requalifications in play. UA is another carrier which has done near the same. I don't know that the SQ's, CX's, BA's etc of this world (let alone Velocity) have done that's on par.

And you know... have some perspective.. there are people in ICU's, and dying and this pandemic is destroying economies, jobs, confidence and all the rest out there.

I am sure I will be accused of drinking the kool-aid or maybe again as being from QF marketing (my fave of all time accusation btw :D ) but sheesh folks this is a bloody good deal from QF and again the've shown by action and intent they will support status folks as best they can. Nothing will be perfect - specially with rolling membership anniversaries as we have - but I reckon its very good for the majority of members...

.. and this isn't the end.

An interesting analysis as always @RichardMEL . Broadly speaking I agree with you.

A couple of other observations I would add. Firstly, that this thread shows just how tight those golden handcuffs really are for some people.

Further to that, QF can throw SCs around like lollies while very few people are using the benefits that cost them real cash. After that it could go one of two ways:
1. Flying returns to something like what it was and QF makes one of its now famous enhancements.
2. QF doesn't make it through the crisis in which case I know a few people with Ansett status who can tell you the outcome.

Just as a data point, I am LTG, just had 50 SC removed at the end of my qualification year.
300SC have today appeared on my account.

Huh interesting. Surprising that they are giving LTG SCs. Though hopefully will encourage travel to move to attempting to get WP

Yes, some glass-half-empty postings popping up (Me, Me, Me).

Because you never no if LTP shows up someday in the far distant future when the Unicorns rule the earth 🌏....

I'm getting super confused by how Qantas is going to handle me and my partner's status. Could someone please advice what will happen?

My partner is Gold and membership year ends July 2020. He's 30 SC away from getting Platinum. We were under the impression that the expiry date for this year would be extended to July 2021, meaning he's still 1370/1400. But it now sounds like come Aug 1st, he retains Gold, but they'll give him 300 bonus SC which makes him 300/600.

Is this the case? Trying to somehow get 30 SC now so at least he's platinum come Aug 1st and will get 600 SC in the next yr.

Let me know if I'm understanding this wrong.

You are correct. He would still need to earn 30 status credits by the end of this month to upgrade to Platinum (and in order to then get 600 SC at the start of the next membership year).

That would be my interpretation too, that do nothing and they remain Gold until July 2021 and get 300 SC plus 2 x 15 SC (for August and September) making a total of 330 SC towards next year's total.

If they can somehow get 30 SC before the end of the month I think they would be Platinum to July 2021, and get 600 SC on Aug 1st and 2 x 50 SC (for August and September) making a total of 700 SC towards the following year's total.

If they can get the remaining 30 SC to get to Platinum before the end of the month it certainly seems worthwhile.

If the borders were not shut, with the status boost it would have been tempting to do some status runs to qualify for a bigger boost. However if the borders were not shut there wouldn't have been a status boost.

Edging closer to Lifetime Silver but LTG still feels a long, long way away.

Thanks for the opinion, at least I know I'm not the only one thinking this way. We got an ANZ card with 75 SC approved if $3000 is spent. Only question is whether that will count towards this year's membership to tick over to platinum, or only count when ANZ deposits the SC which can take up to 3 months.

It will count when it posts, ANZ is reasonably quick once you hit the threshold but unless your statement ends next week, I think you’re out of luck.

Even in a constrained travel environment, that close to WP - can’t your partner take a quick cheap flight (one way flexi)?

That will ensure platinum and at least gold to Jul 2022.

EDIT: I only say this because it is so close to WP - otherwise I wouldn’t encourage status runs given the potential limits on using that status.

This ANZ offer is a bit ambiguous. The marketing headline makes it sound like the 75sc get awarded at the 12 month renewal along with the extra 12 months points. The t&cs makes it sounds like the 75sc are awarded after minimum spend. I had an online chat session, I probably spend 10 min trying to explain my point of view, quoting the t&cs but the ANZ agent kept telling me the 75sc get posted at anniversary. I am mostly convinced he was wrong, but in doubt I went with the Qantas premiere platinum for which the 75sc are awarded after first spend (exclude ato gambling etc...) with the added advantage to count towards life time tally, unlike ANZ one. All that to say that if you still can, and if you didnt have a qantas premiere in the last 12 months, you might want to give it a try, although I am still waiting for the 75sc, and my first spend was 9 days ago. Good luck, and let us know when you get the ANZ sc.

I blame ourselves for rushing to apply for ANZ 75SC without realising that there was a Qantas premiere plat with 75SC. I'm going to apply for this and if it goes through (since it's a 2nd credit check in just 24 hours), then I'll use this card similar to how you're doing it, and also call qantas to confirm, and last step cancel the ANZ card. Thanks

Unless you are in MEL (in which case you don't have many options) book yourself a Jetstar max bundle return fare somewhere (in fact only need one way max - plus would do for the other leg). It's a small price to pay to get platinum and you can probably do a day trip depending on where you are. Eg you could do BNE-NTL-BNE for 30SCs at around $250.

Do live in Melbourne, family member is immuno compromised so taking no chances with flights etc.
