Guys, you can also bypass ex.br and book via skyscanner.com.br and then change the currency to aud which shows roughly the same rates as ex.br.

It's not really a "bypass". Skyscanner is not an OTA, just a super duper search engine.

It'll basically redirect you to the OTA where you confirm your flights and pay, done. Some of those options include expedia.com.br, but there are also other OTAs available.

Also, I may be missing something on Skyscanner but if you do your booking this way and it redirects you to expedia.com.br, you can't do the hotel trick.

As an extra bonus I will have a two week holiday in Thailand!

And all this has cost me $584.
Isn't it great when things fall into place?

Still trying to help a friend for end of year flights to Thailand and the Expedia Brazil website is more expensive than Qantas. Still do not quite understand how they can offer cheaper flights for the ones on sale but more expensive flights during peak season.

FWIW I am looking at trip in May/June BNE-BKK and Expedia Brazil is coming in ~AUD640. Qantas is just over AUD800 but using a $500 gift voucher bought with 10x Qantas points almost evens out the equation. And the booking is on Qantas and I do not need to know Portuguese.

The QF sale fares when they are loaded are opening up the cheap O/Q/N etc. buckets for the Brazil market. When these sale fares are not loaded, only S (I think) and up buckets are available to the Brazil market (whilst O/Q/N etc. are available for all other markets). This results in a higher base fare which offsets the lack of YQ charge when sales are not on.

So really, these QF sale fares being cheaper through the Brazil market are technically mistake fares.

I used to be an ITA devotee but I'm afraid I've found their inventory regularly and increasingly incomplete. And it is not attributable to changing sales cities, for example. The other possibility is that the airlines don't post to GDS all their inventory, such as promotional fares; unusual routings; armed forces fares; etc. Either way, it means ITA has become a useful guide having previously been a bible.

For those interested in comparing the full fare breakdowns and fare buckets, Matrix - ITA Software is a very useful resource.

I notice that the domestic Red-EDeal and sale fares are not posted. It's also disappointing that these fares don't appear to be available in NZ or elsewhere as well.

I agree that it is a good guide. I wonder if it has been changed for the worse since it was bought out recently - think by google.

It does have one useful function in that you can get a time graph that shows what times flight depart and arrive and the length of the stop overs in a horizontal bar graph format.
ozbargain.com.au seems to be a good place to look for unintended deals from airlines. Look at their travel deals which have expired. JoyV

Even under the old ITA pre-Google I couldn't always see sales fares like Qantas Red e-Deals (sometimes it wasn't there at all, or not the cheapest buckets).

I always supplement ITA with some other sources of search, including airline websites, but overall it is quite reliable and a great tool.

I notice that these buckets are not available on other international websites as well. It is possible to get around paying GST.

Have noticed a decent J run with RJ as part of a KL trip.

Can you share more re the GST trick and the RJ run? Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

If you are self employed or have a business in Australia the travel is on business purposes, any GST is generally recoverable.

Would you mind sharing which RJ run this is? I'll be in KUL end Jan and mid April and have been looking for options for a run from KUL. Thanks.

RJ has cheap J class to BKK. It's a little inconvenient though as it only runs a few times a week.

$200 is not really cheap, MH domestic paired with an international flight often come in similar or lower with 40 more SCs each way and less hideous times.

Very inconvenient unless you start the run in BKK as the tag flight is BKK-KUL-BKK on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

And BKK-HKG on the other days.

Was doing it as an OJ MEL-KUL (QF-EK) | BKK-SYD-MEL with KUL-BKK (RJ) J on a separate ticket. Total aprox $630. Probably better to discuss in an alternative MR thread. I found this just looking for a way to get a cheaper ticket to BKK as part of Cup Day Weekend.

Hi guys,

Just wondering your thoughts - will have to get in touch with the bank tomorrow.

Transaction went through fine and the bookings are still there on both QF and Expedia sites; However it appears that the pending amount for the flights appears to have disappeared off my card. The Expedia booking fee of 30BRL went through fine and posted, but my available credit has gone up by what I was expecting for the flights.

Anyone had this issue before? Bit nervous as my travel was for Thurs.

Edit: Bank said nothing pending and nothing rejected, transaction wasn't finalised by merchant - QF Sao Paulo?

Checkmytrip.com says all confirmed.
