This requires clearing customs, grabbing bags and checking in again? If so how time consuming is this? It couldn't be too long.

No need to go to customs etc if at SIN, just go to the transfer desk with your bag tags, underneath the EK lounge near Gate C1.

Only if its in points earning classes BHK (Qantas marketed, operated by Jeststar or Jetstar Asia) L (Qantas marketed, operated by Jetstar and travelling on a oneworld fare), thats why I never book the codeshares, often a separate fare with plus pack is good enough.

I booked one of these .br fares on QF from Syd to Sin (want to go to Kul) and am scheduled to arrive in Sin at 1600. I note there is a 3K flight to Kul at 1935, so if I book that, can I check in at the transfer desk at C1 and they will transfer my bags from Qf to 3K? Will QF interline my bags in Syd to 3K if I have 2 separate tickets? if not, how about MH if book them Sin -Kul?

If I book Air Asia from Sin to Kul, will the transfer desk at C1 transfer the bags as well or do I need to go landside to collect my bags and check it in?

i don't know about Air Asia, but 3k will organise for your bags to be rechecked to KUL regardless of how they were check originally.

there is a sign at the desk specifically stating that if your bags have only been tagged to SIN you are REQUIRED to clear customs and collect them yourself.

None obvious last Friday and a fellow pax off QF81 did exactly what I mentioned.

Well good for them. The sign was there a few weeks ago. I wouldn't rely on this always working.

On 12 and 23 October. I transitted Sin, bags only tagged to Sin, no onward boarding passes. I was able to check in and have bags sent my QF flight to 3K and visa versa with no problems at the transit desk

I haven't seen the sign in at least a year, but inconsistency seems to be a consistent theme. In the last couple of months, I have had (all for separately ticketed flight QF to 3K flights):

1. Boarding passes issued and bags checked through to destination (QF > 3K),
2. Boarding passes issued to SIN with bags checked through to destination (QF > 3K and EK > 3K)
3. Boarding passes issued and bags checked through to SIN only (QF > 3K)

Where boarding passes have been issued to SIN only, it's been a snip to collect them at transfer desk C even when it's been 4 hours prior to the 3K flight (they say it has to be 3 or less). But given the (in)consistency elsewhere I would treat that as an exception rather than the rule.

Thanks for the info. With a buffer of 3.5 hours, the worse case scenario is that I have to go landside to collect my bags, and check them in again....not a problem at Sin. I was also thinking of spending the night at CP Changi, and then catch an early am flight to Kul the next day until I saw the prices of the CP Changi:evil:

I just love how QF are using 3K to extend their reach into South-East Asia but won't allow points/SCs when booking a ticket under one PNR on the lowest fare buckets, not having consistency for luggage check-through at SIN, and no access to lounges (other than in SIN, BKK and HKG) because 3K/JQ is not a OW member. In future, I will book any connecting flight from SIN with MH or, even better and more conveniently, just go via KUL with MH! QF should be encouraging me to use their own metal to SIN and then using 3K beyond if they're threatened by MH but, in their infinite wisdom, they seem to give me even more reason to use MH!

There is no interline agreement with AK, as far as I know.

With the fares on 3k often under $100 return including plus pack, return to KUL and lounge access for five out of six flights for $550 including 100 SC and 20000 points will keep me with QF.

How do you get lounge access in KUL with JQ

How do you get lounge access in KUL with JQ

I don't, that's the missing 1 of 6 flights re lounge access, and if I was going to have to pick an airport sans lounge it would be KUL, I often grab a noodle lunch or a Delifrance breakfast for under $10 while I wait for 3k, ironically from outlets adjacent to the Golden Lounge.

Sorry misread your post.

:)

Yes ive mentioned before how ridiculous it is that qf will through check to oneworld on separate tickets but not to ITS OWN Qantas group airline!

Everyone needs to remember that many Asian ports are serviced directly by QF/JQ flights. This thread being about the very good value br fares to SIN shouldn't really include complaints about lack of interlining, lounge access etc. I'll happily put up with the occasional inconvenience if it means these sale fares continue - I love being in the SYD F lounge knowing I am on the cheapest ticket by far in the place :)

Now back on topic - what current sale fares are people getting? Cheapest currently is 956 rtn with hotel discount correct?

Some 1125BRL to BKK ex-SYD return with hotel trick. Great value IMO with loads of FF points if you are SG or above.

I was just doing a bit of search for MEL-SIN for Easter next year. Thought I found a good deal, but not sure what day I'd be flying back????
