Qantas to allow free changes, cancellations to Classic Flight Reward bookings to 30 September 2022

The @bpeteb post is at the best confusing and with all others interpretation in the mix it gets worse. From the original question asked. "Iv'e sadly just cancelled my revenue flights for our trip to WA and the NT and now need to cancel my partners classic award flights. Flights booked Nov 20. Totally confused. No mention of it being award when I select cancel/credit voucher for either of his bookings. For the BNE-BME red-e deal flight it says credit value of $267.98. Fees and charges were $96.98. When I try the same on the DRW-BNE flight no value is provided (original charges of $55.35). From the QF website it should just be refund of points and charges so I’m confused with what I’m seeing. All advice appreciated." my bolding.

So as I read it this is my this my interpretation/ understanding:
  • I am assuming the trip is QLD-WA-NT-QLD or a similar order. 1 PAX revenue, the other maybe a combination of cash and rewards.
  • The revenue fight BNE-BME would have been a red deal costing $268 on the information given I would suggest that @bpeteb has gone back into the ticket detail and seen $97 dollars worth of taxes, charges and CC fees. I have not checked but this seems about right.
  • The DRW-BNE is a classic rewards booking with fees and taxes of $55 dollar's, which once again I have not checked but this seems about right.
@bpeteb image above is for a cash flight and will most likely become a credit, rewards will be refunded (cash and points).
Thanks Matt but no, image above is for cancellation of my partner’s award booking and that’s why I’m confused.

Our flights were Brisbane-Broome via Perth then Darwin-Brisbane on different PNRs.
My two bookings were revenue flights. I cancelled both yesterday and have two credit vouchers, both exactly $3.50 less than full price paid. My flight to Broome was over $500.
I booked my partner the same flights as two Y awards. But I can now see the issue. They are X but not showing as award.

I’ve attached original booking receipt plus sequence of cancellation.

All sorted today. I'm positive I booked as a standard classic reward but when I called today it was sitting in the system as points plus pay. Ironically the flight to Perth was cancelled today so I could have got a full refund for my revenue booking instead of a credit. Oh well, it'll be spent.

If it booked into X class it was almost certainly not points plus pay. I am not aware of points plus pay booking into non revenue fare buckets these days.

I suspect you got a dud agent.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I thought it was because I split it from another booking but I guess that wasn't really the reason. Looks like it can happen to anyone. The agent I spoke to insisted it was points plus pay, wouldn't budge and issued me with a flight credit she said was worth 8,000 points plus $30. I'd never heard of a flight credit with a points component. Anyway, I got it sorted out a later after sending a complaint. The complaints person said she could see it was a classic reward.

Just checking partner classic awards (including those operated by NZ) are still covered by the free changes/cancellations?

The website is a bit confusing only mentioning QF/JQ flights but older responses in this thread suggest otherwise.

Partner classic rewards are covered, over the past 6-7 months I have booked, changed and cancelled multiple classic rewards across, JL, BA, CX, QR and EK without issue. No points fees have been deducted and all taxes returned in full. I have not booked anything that is NZ operated and assume it works the same.

Cheers, I just booked an Air NZ domestic flight using QF points. I'm not sure I'll fly it but given the free cancelation, it's not a bad deal.

A bit off-topic but I haven't seen many purchase NZ domestic flights with QF points yet so here is a little explanation. It was ticketed within minutes and an intresting thing to note is that my QF app and the ticket seems to show 2x23kg bags are included. I was able to login to the S7 (a oneworld airline) and use the Qantas booking reference to find the Air New Zealand booking reference (these always end in H) however on the Air NZ website and app it says that my booking isn't able to be viewed online or using the app.

I've had success contacting Qantas and asking them for an Air NZ PNR (this was for a revenue Qantas/Air NZ connection).

Other note, I've also had success in having Qantas points flights cancelled via Facebook Messenger. It's become my go-to communication method with Qantas - everything in writing, no phone waits.

Question (and hope I'm in the right topic), we have a combined QF-EK classic award booking made back in 2019 when EK awards were priced same as Qantas (before they were moved to partner award schedule).

Departure date is again coming up, if we were to change again will we be charged the points difference on this occasion?

Also if we were to change, it looks like EK F award availability is non-existent for QFF at this stage, has there been any news on that front? After spending some time yesterday it looks like there will not even be an option to change the date due to cabin availability.

Yes, a change would be repriced at the current rates so you'd be charged the difference.

Has anyone noticed issues with changing classic reward flights online?

On many of my bookings the "Change" button is greyed out now wand instead prompts me to to "Call your Qantas Office".

I only have a couple on my account for Mrs and MissM and the change option is available.

The Change option is available on both mine (one JQ and the other QF with a schedule change accepted)...

Perhaps they're having problems with processing changes/cancelations right now and it's been done on purpose?

I canceled a classic reward that was 100% points (taxes of a few dollars also paid via points) and it's been over 24 hours with no refund (however I've got no clue what the expected timeframe would normally be).

All of my refunds have been hit and miss, some posted points and taxes back in a day or 2 others took 6-8 weeks and an email prompt to the VIP Team.

Mixed results changing some Classic Rewards flights today.

Generally where there had been no changes by Qantas I could make changes online no problems.

I've had problems changing flights where Qantas had made changes. The Change button was greyed out until I accepted the change. After accepting the change, I could select new dates etc but then an error would come up about the "fare not being in the database" or something similar. This required a call to fix.

I had some other bookings where there had been no changes but it was coming up with a "generic error" after selecting the new flights. Had to call to fix these as well - according to the agent the reason was because the system thought they were Points Plus Pay bookings, even though she could see they clearly weren't.

I have started keeping track of my refunds and the timeframe is fairly constant around 45 days.

Asked the question when I had to call and was told that once QF has made changes to a booking, they cannot be amended online.
