I have award flights Syd-Drw in August that I have to cancel...you know why! Is it better to ring up (I'm Plat so hold time won't be too long) or cancel online for full refund?

Online. Makes no difference in the processing time.

Really happy with QF refund. Had to xxl a few classic rewards re covid. Called reservations but thought would send via messenger . Gave full details. Received points re banked within 24hours and payment for fees etc refunded within 48 hours. Really impressed as was advised could take 12 weeks.

Good to know there was a helpful response by QF.
I assume "xxl" means cancel, and not an item of clothing?

Five classic reward bookings, flights cancelled by QF. Points refunded on four. No tax and fee refunds yet as at week six.

I am booked to fly Melbourne to Cairns on Qantas flight on July 27th. It's looking as though this will not be possible due to Covid restrictions. I bought the ticket for 2 in Feb this year with points and pay and it was very cheap $378 rtn each. I guess it must have been a red e deal. I don't even know what penalties apply if we are not able to fly due to restrictions. Last time I looked I had to use the credit by Feb 22nd 2022 as I booked the flight on 22nd Feb 2021. I understood from what I read that it is only for same route. Is it likely that Qantas will cancel flight? Is it better ( as far as financials go) to wait and see if flight cancelled? I am 70+ and losing interest in flying anywhere. Also I would prefer a refund if that will be an option. TIA

Yes sorry, used to work for airline, many abbreviations not always understood. Forgive me
Yes not an item of clothing. Thought all members would understand.

Fly Flexible seems to have been quietly extended..

Cash bookings - unlimited free date changes (fare difference applies)
Domestic and TT - book by 28/2/22 for travel by 28/2/22
International - book by 28/2/22 for travel by 31/12/22

Classic awards "booked with Qantas" (ambiguous) - unlimited free date changes and free cancellation with refund
Domestic and TT award - book by 28/2/22, change/cancel booking until 28/2/22-
International awards - book by 28/2/22, change/cancel booking until 31/12/22

@sudoer I had noticed the other day that the booking window moved to 30 Sep 21 but the free change date was still 28 Feb 22. These must been recently updated. I am actually quite happy with the dates moving out as it should now be possible to OWA through to about Nov-Dec 23 without penalty. Agree the wording is quite ambiguous and I am sure there will be many on this site asking the same questions that have been asked for the past 16 months about refunds, points, taxes etc. I am quietly confident I know how to play the system.

As a small data point. I canceled a classic rewards Air New Zealand domestic flight which was booked using only points (taxes paid via points). The refund took 19 days from pressing cancel in manage booking to the points reappearing.

Is anyone else able to change flight dates online? I have been getting an error message since the weekend.

@aikman I have not tried to change any flights but try clearing your cache and have another go. QF made some changes to their website a couple of months back and now (in my experience) it is almost impossible to do anything online other than to book and give QF coin.

Does anyone have clarity on this? Specifically Emirates operated flights booked as CR with QFF points.

Looks like they reworked the Fly Flexible page since I posted in late July, it now clearly states "Qantas operated"

I changed and then cancelled EK rewards flights without penalty over the past week.

OT and I could go into a rant, I am seriously over all the changes QF are making to their T&Cs and general tweaks to the website. They are seriously making a meal of it.

I booked an EK CR flight after this message.

This thread doesn't inspire confidence but at least I have this on paper. Still hoping though I can actually make this flight out (in March).

When I booked a Classic Flight Award 2 days ago, it said that it needs to be Qantas Operated. Hence I booked a more expensive Classic Flight ward on QF, than on JQ.

I booked a JQ flight (domestic) about 3 weeks ago and cancelled it about 2 weeks ago, got a full points refund (obviously the taxes will be a while yet...). I think the awards are different to the revenue fares.
