Qantas to Close First Class Lounge in Singapore

Not surprising given that Dubai is the new EK hub.. I mean QF hub....

Qantas Int. will only fly to/from the USA in a matter of years....

HKG I understand as they fly the A380 to HKG which has F. I wonder how BA F pax will cope without an F lounge?

Puts the renovations into a confused state. I'm sure BA will be free to keep an F lounge open. Just QF won't [directly] pay for it I guess.

Makes you wonder if punters need to be warned when dealing with QF management, perhaps these signs should be put on their doors!

I actually think if BA go ahead with an F lounge that is scaled down then SIN will be a much nicer place to transit say to the UK SYD-SIN on QF and SIN-LHR on BA (assuming revised times work) as it wont have the deluge of people that SIN has now with the short transits.

One could perhaps argue that QF has not had an F lounge at SIN, in anything other than name, for years.;)

I think they should close the First Class lounges in Bangkok, Brisbane and Auckland too. No need to have a First Class lounge for all those free loading Platinum Frequent Flyers. #sarcasm.

Hands up who didn't see this coming?

I honestly hadn't thought about all the details, like some here have.

So the only question I have is why HKG gets the A380's still, but SIN doesn't? I'm not complaining, having grown up in HKG I think it's a much better transit point than SIN, and continued attention there is good.

I can only think it's because of whatever airline they decide to launch in Hong Kong, but if it's LCC (e.g. same as 3K), then they don't need an F lounge for those pax, instead J in both locations makes sense (presuming anyone flying them regularly earns any SC). So perhaps this is a clue to a premium carrier still intending to be based in HKG.

Even without the BA JSA, I'm sure F on whatever a/c fly to SIN would work, connecting to whatever F a/c BA has.

Because its not competing with other A380s on the same route.

An earlier post looked like a reverse J curve. Move over Paul Keating it is QFI coming through!

Is HKG a proposed route for the BA A380's ?

Yes, I believe its the first Asian destination late next year.

I'm sure there's many different ideas floating around, but according to this post from June 2012, it's MAD, then LAX, then HKG as the first Asian route:

Discussion - Business Traveller

I've been told that BA will get it's first A380 in March 2013 and it will be used for a short while on the LHR/MAD route to train up their pilots similar to Air France on the CDG/LHR route. It will then go on the LHR/LAX route. Then in April the second aircraft will fly the LHR/HKG route. The cabin layout will be very similar to SQ's . This has yet to be officially confirmed. Also the 1st class cabin will not be suites but will be enhanced and called First Prime or something similar

So maybe we'll see a re-think on the new HKG lounge  To be honest I'd rather see a new F Lounge at SIN. The CX lounges at HKG are pretty good but there are no decent OW F lounges in SIN unless I'm mistaken

Of course Emirates have a business/first lounge in terminal one at SIN. And from what I understand from the new partnership Qantas passengers will get access to it. The food is usually very good in the Emirates lounge.
