Qantas to fly to Delhi from Sydney & Melbourne

This is A330 issues - tbh i am glad they are cutting it for now, the A330 reliability are downright shocking bad!

Another thing to consider MEL-DEL can seemingly only be operated by the 8 extended-range A330-200s (EBM-EBV) whilst SYD-BLR can also be done by the A330-300s so that extends the pool of aircraft to 18. In that sense I can understand why they chose MEL-DEL to be cut.

Beyond the A330 reliability right now, I think the A330-200 refurbishment program is meant to be 'mid-year' so that'd take an extra aircraft out of service as well.

Thanks for the information on the A330 availability! :)

I haven't been following this ...what are the issues with the 330?
The problem is the aircrafts being used are delayed often for no obvious reasons (many are hours at a time) as shown on this link below - especially the last 20 pages of the link

Is this why MEL-DEL originally made a stop in ADL?

Okay, thanks. So, it's related more to systemic delays than an apparent technical issue with the aircraft, unlike the problems that ANZ is having with their 787s, which are causing routing limitations.

Fuel and wine?

It appears more like tech issues on these aircraft but it is also could come from stretching the fleet too thin...

Insightful.

Does anyone know the technical issues with the Qantas 330 fleet that are causing operational readiness issues?
Sadly no 1 issue common on these aircraft, but the common theme is that these aircrafts are already 20 years old and being used extensively on the QF fleet - both international and domestic

Qantas engineering is likely the main culprit here. Or should we say the lack of enough skilled staff in the maintenance division to keep up with the work. 20 year old planes fly just fine if they're being maintained properly and on schedule. There's just been lots cut back in the engineering divisions that it can't keep up with the work.

Though this isn't necessarily just a Qantas issue though. There's also a global shortage of skilled maintenance engineers and many airlines and MROs are only belatedly trying to accelerate the apprenticeship programs.

Careful speakers will say ‘aeroplanes’. Not least because of the sense of superiority it gives one over those of a transatlantic persuasion.

Trump actually said "aeroplanes" when referring to us (regarding the tariffs, that we have a surplus because we need a lot of aeroplanes".

US media misquoted him saying "airplanes". Fake news! (as he would say).

When the route was first introduced we heard it was indeed because of restrictions that prevented A330s going non-stop on the way over, but going back it was always non-stop. This has not stopped MEL-DEL becoming non-stop.

We knew at the time that it intended to modify A330s to fly BNE-LAX, it was announced in August 2021, and it needed Airbus to sign off on some documentation. Flights did not begin in April 2022 and it must have occurred at some point prior to September 2022 that these aircraft could fly MEL-DEL non-stop. At this point, the route became exclusively crewed by Jetconnect crew from New Zealand.
