A great day for the national carrier, Perth Airport and Australia. PER set to become the largest QF hub apart from Sydney.

IJust like how Etihad pulled out of Perth after QF launched PER-LHR, this new development will likely lead to more exits and cutbacks from foreign airlines while its QF’s and Australia’s time to shine with nonstop from east coast and one-stop via Perth bound to crush the current dominating airlines.

Really? Are you are that was the reason that Etihad pulled out of Perth? Really sure? 😁 More "exits" you think? Mmmm.

Are we thinking maybe a Flounge for Perth?? 🤞🥂🤞🥂
I would think so given the A350's will be taking over PER-LHR (assuming CDG and FCO as well).

Only downside to this news is I doubt they invest any $$$ in the existing lounges now. The Perth QPub really is quite sad.

In the interim with the T3 international upgrades and plans to use the A350 to LHR, I hope this means a F lounge is coming. They'll certainly need more lounge capacity so it seems like the obvious option.
Doubt this happens in T3 but in the new terminal I'd be shocked if they didn't

If there is a flounge I doubt it will be to the Standard of SYD and MEL.
Only 6 F seats for project Sunrise planes and with just 12 planes I don't think there will be another Sunrise flight from PER.

Besides Geoffrey Thomas says this upgrade is essential so I am not reassured that plans won't change. ;)

Given Qantas' penchant for announcing things when they are no more than a thought bubble, the fact that they haven't announced a First Lounge in this press release is, perhaps, telling.

Etihad had their own financial problems thanks to the infamous James Hogan 'cash-spending into massive debt' era at the time of pullout. EY subsequently pulled out of BNE not long after.
Also losing the major VA partnership to QR (EY/VA now being a minor, largely one-way partnership) also makes it more difficult for EY to restart PER or BNE largely being on their own against the massive partnerships of their rivals.

It’s 7 yrs away. Still time…

But if QF wants to make it a hub, it won't just be for F flyers but status too. I mean at the moment MEL gets... F flights only sometimes when the 380 decides it will fly to LAX from MEL.

The WP+s in the other states need some reason to go via PER instead of SIN or HKG to Europe.

F Lounges are primarily for Frequent Flyers, it's pretty rare that the people in them are actually flying F. There's 4 (QF, QR, MH, CX) different OW carriers currently flying to PER and there's currently no OW lounges in the international terminal.

Also at the time they withdrew from major airports in the US and also Edinburgh in Scotland. They were reorganising many routes or culling them. Were they not also subsidised to operate from Perth for a while?

Yeah still time to ditch routes...., 😕

Not having garbage narrow bodied connections would be a start
There's plenty of widebody flights between SYD/MEL and PER. I have never flown on a 737 from coast to coast.

Unfortunately BNE widebody flights seem to have disappeared.

Blimey!! You are lucky. I'm used to widebodies being swapped out for 737 often. Many flights from PER to SYD and MEL are by 737...alongside every other destination by single aisle aircraft ex PER for in Australia.
