Qantas to Westjet at LAX

Sorry to bump this thread but wondering if anyone knows what fare type a QF classic reward booking converts to on Westjet? I can see Westjet has three types of economy fare types with different entitlements... will have quite a bit of luggage so avoiding some of the bag charges might change the economics of cash v points booking.

If the booking only contains Westjet operated flights then an economy reward seat lines up with the Econo fare meaning both seat selection and baggage comes at a charge.

The Qantas website is very confusing in this regard and it applies to both WS, AS and AA domestic flights, the old portal correctly shows 0 pieces:


Whereas the new portal incorrectly shows a tick (what ever that means),


Interestingly they've added a message for AS (and I guess AA flights) but clearly haven't updated WS:

Not disputing, but TBH I’m surprised by that. Classic Rewards have traditionally included min luggage in whY (and for J, lounge access eg on AY and QR who have J Lite fares excluding lounge access).

With OWE status, I‘d get those extra benefits, but curious if peeps have recent experience of zero bags on QF CRs in whY on AA, AS (and WS) as standalone bookings?

I was worried about this as well. This is what my (one-way) Canada-Australia ticket says regarding baggage (ie 2 bags checked @ 32kg each/pax):

That's very different because the most significant carrier rule applies. In your case it's Qantas however frequent flyer baggage allowances wouldn't apply to the WestJet operated service.
