Qantas Trans-Tasman Business Class

I've also noticed extremely slow service on TT of late, both in J and Y. On one evening Y flight it took ages to serve the meal, then we sat there with finished meals for an hour before they collected. Icecream was given out just before descent!

It's interesting that Y service has slowed, because nothing has changed there (the J slowdown is explained by the switch to plated meals but Y gets the boxes, right?)

My (one sample only) Y service last week was very quick. Even in Row 4 - the gap between meal served and taken away wasn't too bad. About 30 minutes and to be expected.

They weren't boxes, but small dishes under foil - served on smaller plastic mats (not trays). Hadn't seen before but almost as quick as boxes.

Has anyone flown trans-Tasman J on a breakfast flight since they started the "new" meal service?

I'm keen to give QF J a go next month when I visit AKL, but both of my flights are early morning departures. Is it worth upgrading?

I've got a AKL-BNE 06:20 coming up very early Sep so can post the menu/pics on here if that's helpful.

Flew J to AKL last week and got switched to QF from the EK flight when it was delayed. From memory there was a muesli and yoghurt, omelette and one other option. Sorry I didn't take that much notice as we'd eaten in the F lounge so wasn't really hungry during the flight. The service around me seemed pretty prompt though.

Yes, breakfast. QF only has that one morning service CHC - SYD, then a later one CHC - BNE in the afternoon, then EK's late afternoon/evening flight.
Was on that first service of the day from CHC - SYD.
Definitely wasn't EK evening service.
I had the fruit salad and a coffee.
Didn't want the yoghurt.
Had a champange for breakfast of all things!
Didn't think about taking away the menu sheet of paper either.

I'd be surprised if there was much of a difference in the breakfast menus. Maybe they'll add toasted sandwiches....

Personally don't think early morning flights are worth the upgrade. I'm lucky to have row 4 access so doubt I'll upgrade any except for the overnight flights. If I didn't have row 4 I'd consider it, but not for a morning flight.

QF133 - MEL-CHC - is this a new flight?

Just noticed it opened up for my flights in Jan with the *Pending Gov approval from Dec 16).

Given its an overnight (Dep 23:45 arriving 5:05 +1) what service would we expect in J? supper? Amenities? PJs?!?!!? ;)

Yes, theyve just done a rejig of the schedule. Not sure what the services would be though.

Yes, MEL > CHC is a new service that starts shortly.
Not exactly excited by the departure time ex MEL, especially considering the arrival time into CHC (5am) although the departure time ex CHC is a lot more friendly for leisure passengers.
737 Service, which should come with an amenity kit, but not sure if the PJ's are handed out.

Flew QF152 AKL-MEL last Tuesday in J. 7:15am departure.

Breakfast service, offered choice of 3 meals. (sorry cannot remember all the options, but there was Pancakes, Omelette and 1 other)

I had Blueberry pancakes. A starter of yoghurt and berries to begin, then the pancakes. They were fine. Man in the seat next to me had an omelette. Which looked good. Should have asked his opinion as the CSM knew him quite well as a regular.

Good to know as we have a 6.15am CHC-BNE booked.

You will find that it has been scheduled in mind of CHC pax to connect the QF9/10, with booking sites showing this as the first option if you have QF as the preferred carrier.
It is similar to the MEL-WLG JQ service that runs at a similar time.

Sorry I forgot to reply to this post.
Last month
Cold Breakast was museli
Hot 1 Riccotta Pancakes
Hot 2 Fritta
You get fruit, yogurt bread with all options.

Thanks everyone. The breakfast options sound reasonable - I'll request a points upgrade and see how it goes.

Presumably the same as the overnight flight to AKL - in which case in J you should get the amenity kit and a supper service -- which for me has been pretty much the same as a dinner meal, just not plated with 'salad' and bread, and with fewer (but still some) options. Better than the QF redeyes from Perth in my opinion, and with the added benefit of an F lounge dinner beforehand.

A muffin or Danish just before descent, with coffee or juice (I think).

Haven't done a redeye under new menu though so this may have changed.

No PJs !

QFi MEL J lounge, ... hah..., no way would I do that one again.
((Unless the flyer is a WP/P1 of course, then get access to the QFi MEL F lounge))...
I would do SYD - CHC anytime over MEL - CHC. If flying J and wanting lounge access.
At least with QFi SYD J lounge, there is a hint of something to look at outside, even if its just a bit of light over the aircond ducts, during daylight hours.
QFi MEL J lounge, its a basement!
Granted it would fit some people's schedule to fly MEL - CHC, ie work or other activities on sunrise in CHC am, but for me its SYD over MEL.
Also flying that EK bird, you can get 2 visits, the QFi SYD J lounge and also the EK J lounge.
