Qantas Trans-Tasman Business Class

The J lounge at WLG is quite nice too.

Disagree. IME the WLG J Lounge can be an overcrowded zoo with little in the way of offerings and staff who are more interested in their phone conversation than personally welcoming a passenger (hand out means "BP please", thrusted back means "Thank You, Welcome to the Qantas Lounge).

That said, the OP and partner are back on the 162, so the overcrowding (I've only flown out mid-afternoon and only about half-a-dozen times) might not occur ( probably too early for phone calls too!)

Regards,

BD

I love this comment. I get flamed for saying lie flat on domestic transcon is overkill, but here we are an international flight with lesser quality seating is getting called overkill bahahaha

You wouldn't have been flammed by me, because it is overkill transcon. But what the customers expect though.

Sorry but this is harsh. The OP never made mention of the seat originally but more the food and service.

If I recall the question was product, IN PARTICULAR food. I concentrated on the seat bit, maybe getting in early but sure as day follows night someone would have complained, just as they do transcon.

I'm doing the overnight MEL-AKL flight soon. Be interesting to see service on this one. Have already been forewarned the meal is 'refreshment' only (so will need to eat up in the F lounge beforehand!). have secured a points upgrade to J which is welcome.

Are you flying on QF151? I'd be very interested to hear what this flight is like.

Flying QF J from SYD will get QF J lounge entry at SYD anyway, not needing to have status, mere fact of flying J. Higher status, then the F lounge, even if flying J.
The Aust dep esp SYDint Express path is one of the best things since sliced bread.
I have had it several times, and its all faster than general population.
Haven't tried the Au egate int departures though.
Express path nowadays only good for int security processing, with egate int dep shouldn't take as long as waiting in queue for ABF passport scanning via officer.

Flying tomorrow night BNE - AKL in J.
Will post a small review of the flight and overnight stay at the Novotel Auckland Airport. K

Yes the QF J catering has improved a lot lately imo. Note I did not say it was bad, just "basically the same".

Just trying to highlight the domestic food in J was excellent and exceeded my expectations by a long way. If the trans Tasman food is as good then I Would be very happy.

Hey i'm staying there tomorrow night as well, although only Y from MEL unfortunately. Sounds like an impromtu AAF event coming up (unless you land around midnight)

Groundhog it'd be awesome but we'll be departing BNE at 1830 and landing at midnight, connecting to ZQN at 10am.

However if you are awake and the bar is open I'm in!
I will be finishing nigh shifts tomorrow morning = sleeping all day and awake all night

Sorry i have a 1pm flight and i plan on having a few "tonic water's" in the flounge before the flight so plus what i consume on board will make me too sleepy to stay up till midnight. Have a safe trip.

I've just had a great inflight meal, an inflight shower, and now relaxing with the inflight WiFi on an EK A380, all for the price of QF J. Please remind me why I'd want to get back into a poxy QF 737? :)

Ah, like minds.
I too love the wide ones, (planes).
Would always try to get the EK metal QF flight numbered CHC-SYD flight than the am QF's JC one.

As discussed in the What's Up with to Emirates? thread on the Open Discussion forum, QF (Jetconnect) over EK is generally due to schedule, cabin service and not requiring the EK hard product benefits.
IME I will choose QF over EK due to schedule, but saying that I do have an EK First TT trip booked (on QF code) for a birthday indulgence, otherwise their schedule is just not that convenient for a NZ based traveller.

BA for example, use the same seat and now pitch throughout the aircaft. Only difference is no one in the middle and a 'better' meal.

Which was worth it for us recently when travelling with Master_O, as we had the additional space and somewhere to put Mrs_O's meal when it arrived.

It gives you a JQ WLG-AKL flight or just WLG-MEL....but I know of some WLG flyers that go via AKL or CHC but is only done for the joy of flying rather than convenience reasons as you basically can lose two days due to the schedule. The good old LAN run, pre FS changes, meant you could fly up to AKL at night and then have a full day in SYD but lose a day getting back to WLG, I used to do that for years before I just accepted that the $800NZD was worth it for flying direct from WLG.

BNE to AKL has been delayed.
That means more time at the lounge.
The place is small but has been mostly empty since I arrived from NTL.

More updates of the trip soon

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. Being Oz-based, the schedule for me is quite good, but I can see that it's not that great from the other direction.
