Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

QFF members (and especially P1) have access to more classic award inventory than is shown on ExpertFlyer in U class.
I’ve never been able to get an instant upgrade reward request before without U availability, so a first for me and happy to take it. Usually I have to ring up and ask for a seat to be released for a classic business class reward (not an upgrade).

QF93 MEL-LAX Oct 21, A380
WP Y+ to J, successful T-60

Going back may be not so easy 27 Oct, Q12 A380 LAX-SYD
WP, Y+ (T) to J, request 6 months ago
Anyone have the current availabillty please? (6 seats on J QF seat map that of course is not necessarily accurate). I'd appreciate it.

A week ago, I applied for a classic upgrade on a SYD-MEL flight (on the 8th of Nov) and it's just come through as confirmed. Not exactly sure why it's confirming so early, I can only assume that they added an award seat to the flight thus causing this to confirm immediately?

I have a theory on these upgrades, not sure if its already accepted or even well known.

Im pretty sure Qantas allocate these upgrades based on status, and then on the number of status points. I have noticed that I was getting 100% upgrades on long haul flights as i moved towards the end of my account renewal date, when i had 2k+ status points. Since my account was reset at the end of August i have received zero upgrades.

QF33 (SYD-CDG), Eco-Flex to J on 23/10/24, Success @ T - 26 hours
Status: LTS + QC

I read somewhere that Silver with Qantas Club gets priority over Silver. Does anyone have more insights on this?

Oh that’s to remind you of how good they are to ensure you “fly on” with them.
Once renewed, I noticed the love fell away …

Last night
Between flights
I noticed this in the app…
And it was a 40 minute layover so all this is going on in real time (and the flight flew with one empty J seat)

There was also a pattern of upgrade offer with the dial set at some outrageous price but could be lowered to $270

But best to offer a bid at slightly higher eg $280

Then there was the neighbour free seat which I scored out of Bris to Melb for free but was offered one for $65

My status year starts on 1 June and I usually time a trip to Europe to early June (SYD-LHR return with connections). My best success rate with upgrades has been on those trips despite being at zero or very low SC numbers. Then it wanes off...
