Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I've requested an upgrade to J for an upcoming flight PER-MEL in April. Am on the waitlist and don't like my chances given I have no status (Bronze) and was a class S fare! Have used up all of my expert flyer free trial emails haha, so will wait and hope I get a surprise!

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Received the v. happy upgrade notification this morning for QF171 tomorrow morning.

Select on Q eat seems no longer available. I had previously selected a Y meal and was hoping to have a look at that the J options. But no luck.

Is this normal for upgraded seats?

No, both times our points upgrades have come through for SYD/HNL we've selected Qeat however that was at least 48 hours prior to departure.

Did you maybe miss the 24 hour cut-off window?

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

It's slightly above 24 hours, so I thought I'd be safe.

The website sez: "Meals can be ordered and changed between seven days and 12 hours prior to departure."

What date/flight? I've got plenty of alerts left.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

SYD-HKG PE to J upgrade notified at T-60. I managed to select a seat on the upper deck, this will be my first time on the upper deck of the 747:)...better tick it off the bucket list now before the Queen of the Skies gets into retirement...

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

J-F LHR-DXB at T60
Nice text from the upgrade fairy :D

My flight was 15 March and was on the empty side with J half full.

I was kind hoping for a miracle upgrade due to technical or other issues

Must say these adhoc operational upgrades have long disappeared. Not seen one now for at least 1.5 years.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

BNE/MEL on Thursday upgraded to J as soon as I stopped changing the flight dates, but totally expected to get one as I'm on QF601 (5am).

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Put in my first ever upgrade request from Y+ to J. As I am Bronze I don't like my chances, but if I don't get it I can try using the points another time when I will hopefully have some status.

That's the spirit !!
Good luck to you :)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Thanks. I'll find out later this year how I go. The Y+ flights will take me off Bronze for the first time ever

Also successful for the return flight QF128 (notified at T-27) and given an upper deck exit row seat. Actually, both QF operated HKG-SYD flights were still showing I9 this morning, so not a big surprise. I'm quite happy with that considering that I had booked the cheapest PE return flights to HKG (AUD1,399) and it only cost 25K points to upgrade to J each way.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

For an award upgrade when is one notified of success - 24 hours before flight for instance?

Anywhere from T-168 (CL & P1) to T-5 depending on status and flight loading or even at the gate if that option is selected. As a WP I typically get notified at T-60, T-28 or T-24.

Have had two successful upgrade requests as a WP on QF3 Feb 2015 & received notification T-60 & Mar 2016 at T-53.

And if not notified, then actively push your upgrade claim in the lounge. We've had to do that twice. There's a small issue if you are traveling as a couple and requested upgrades. Easier as a single.
