Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF9 points upgrade

So the process is that you secure/earn the requisite amount of points, apply for the upgrade, and wait for the confirmation (or not) some time before departure?
That's right. You can read more about the process here.

Re: QF9 points upgrade

Thanks Opusman. I was under the (apparently mistaken) view that points upgrades (rather than reward seats) are confirmed on application. So the process is that you secure/earn the requisite amount of points, apply for the upgrade, and wait for the confirmation (or not) some time before departure?

Exactly. And I think you can withdraw the application up to 24 hrs before flight? Only domestic upgrades get confirmed on application.

Re: QF9 points upgrade

I suspect the chance of an "op-up" for a PS member on QF9 would be similar to actually really winning Lotto. Sorry to be negative, but I just think it is very unrealistic, and enjoying a great economy product such as the QF9 flight should not be hampered by the inevitable disappointment such optimism could bring. :(

I am WP and feel I have almost zero chance on a similar flight.

I'm quite certain you're right. I've had more op-ups with Emirates as a QF PS than I have with Qantas itself (2 out of my last ten flights with EK on a QF ticket- one at check in, one at the gate; 0% on actual QF metal!). Being ADL based generally I fly the EK codeshare to DXB and Europe; I decided to give QF9 a spin this time as the DSC on two sectors bumps me up to SG this year.

Thanks- I guess this precludes the opportunity to have an "each way" bet on PE and J upgrades.

Re: QF9 points upgrade

If you've already purchased a Flex fare its only 60k to upgrade to business, and if you tick the PE box as well you have two chances. You may as well grab a credit card with a decent sign up bonus to get hold of the points and give it a whirl.

I had success on QF9 Y to J as bronze in late august last year so there is always hope - especially if you are traveling alone.

I have a friend who was able to do the same, also as a NB but later last year.

It depends how full the flight is and the status of those applying for upgrades.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

My lifetime history is 100%, mostly international J to F, either to LHR or LAX and from Mel and Syd.
Have had a few Y to J SYD/MEL/BNE to AKL, including many years ago as a NB. Every Y - J request domestically has come through, although having been a subscriber to expertflyer for many years now, I will only apply if there is U availability or light loadings in J.
Overall, probably 20-30 upgrades.
Slightly off topic, but I have never actually flown an A380 in anything but F (occasional paid, but mostly upgrades from paid J)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

100% success rate so far (1 upgrade).

02/06/2016 QF73 SYD - SFO = Success (T-29 hours)

Status: PS

Finally, I'm no longer a QFF member who has never used any points earned.

Edit: Should have mentioned the upgrade was from Y+ to J

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Yesterday, requested Classic Upgrade on my BNE/MEL QF601 flight for 17/6. Successful at application.

Requested Classic Upgrade for the return MEL/BNE (QF634) same day, it's on waitlist.

12/06/2016 QF74 SFO - SYD = Success (T-28 hours)

Status: SG (the flight over took me to SG, so SG for the flight back).

Also from Y+ to J

Requested the upgrade back when I was a NB as soon as I could after
booking the flights.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Changed a booking on Wed PM for BNE/MEL/BNE (was going today, moved to Wed 22nd). Re-selected upgrades for both sectors and not surprised both were waitlisted (routing and peak flight times). Definitely surprised to get this SMS this morning (T-120) for a Silver member
