Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Received Y->J upgrade on HKG-MEL this week for myself & wife. At T-48 it was showing J6D6I5. No notification and as it approached OLCI time I was resigned to disappointment. At T-22 EF told me my Y seats were available and I saw points had been deducted, so I presume this likely happened around T-24 (I couldn't check in when it opened as I was out drinking in a bar!). EF then showed J1. Cabin went out full, so QF were as generous as they could be.

New J product is very very good, although I felt the bed is a bit hard compared to other J products. Food was rubbish and limited availability, service started poorly but got a lot better as the flight went on. I was very happy overall as the bed was what I most needed for this redeye.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I have requested 3 upgrades in my time flying
QF653 from Melbourne to Perth was successfully upgraded (in the new A330 seats as well!)
QF30 from Hong Kong to Melbourne earlier this year, was travelling on a saver fare however did not get upgraded
Qf30 for tomorrow and I was upgraded!

never flown business international before so it should be fun!

I got my Dad to upgrade me as he is platinum one and I am only gold so I figured I had a better chance of being upgraded if he requested it!

QF693 goes between MEL and ADL.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

My domestic upgrades are running at almost 100%. Got an SMS at T-28:

Looking forward to a J seat on an Airbus 332.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I'd say our Qantas points upgrade success is running at 60%. Nothing for MrP yesterday AKL - MEL even as WP and his flight the day before had been cancelled. But he had the Y row to himself which he actually preferred as he could work on the PC and use the seats for his notes etc.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I can't actually work out what my percentages are. My upgrades are definitely cursed - all but 1 approved upgrades end up in massive delays and/or cancellations, and I would end up cancelling the upgrade to take a different flight. Rest assured, I don't request upgrades anymore.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Requested and received a Flex Y to J upgrade for QF81 (Syd-Sin) at T-27. Only a QF NB.

Now debating whether to request an upgrade for the return leg (Saver Y)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Successful J > F upgrade for QF11 (SYD-LAX) tomorrow. Interestingly, the upgrade occurred overnight at ~ T30 however, no text received, yet... the points have been deducted and I've OLCI with an F BP

The odds are looking excellent for the return on QF12!

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Whilst it will cost you more in point on the return leg, you'll have experienced J on the outbound and you won't want to settle for whY again...Do it, life is too short

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Received QF op-up ADL-MEL and didn't even realised until just before boarding when I dished out the boarding pass. :p
Short flight but still happy. Thanks QF!

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Re Aeolus, that has happened to me once too.
CHC - SYD earlier on today, 12 J seater Jetconnect, 5 occupied inc me.
I paid for my whJ seat.
Rest were empty, no Op Up from Y and they didn't fill those J seats for any other reason either.
Meaning QF/Jetconnect are happy to fly their J services partly empty.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Firstly I had to dodge the ridiculously long line at security check at OOL by detouring down the unchecked premium pax lane, I'm only silver QC flying economy. That gave me at least 30 minutes at the lounge, asked the angel if there were any upgrades, OOL-MEL she said she would see what she could do, my disc bulge was playing up so needed extra comfort to sooth my back. Upon leaving the lounge was handed new BP for seat 2C. Only deducted 7500 points? I guess work booked me in a flexible fare  I thought it would be more points. Anyway the wine and comfy seat + 1 Valium made for an enjoyable ride, and my BP got me into the MEL J lounge on my Y flight to Devenport?

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

What was the consideration ?. Points? Clamshells?

Revenue fare - points upgrade.

The fare was a J sale, pretty reasonable priced at $5K (BNE-SYD-LAX-SYD-BNE), earned 660SC (50% SC bonus) and 49,000 QFFP .... very happy given I managed to pull the return upgrade and fly SYD-LAX-SYD in F for bugger all

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Mr Katie, SG, QF1 on 17 July - upgrade from Y+ to J received at ~ T-30hrs.
He forgot his pin number, so didn't pre-order meals.
He's travelling with a buddy, separate PNRs, also SG. The buddy's upgrade from Y+ to J also came through, but he only found out when he checked in online the night before. No SMS, so I presume his contact details aren't up-to-date.

hmm, no SMS received for either of my upgrades - contact details are current and correct. I found out via EF alerts....

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Denied a Y to J upgrade on QF20 last night MNL-SYD. Wasn't surprised as the loads were really high and was J0 three weeks out, although got back to J2 a few days ago. Must say the crew was very average on a side note.
