Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Same here! I was thinking 'surely not, when it's >90% sold in both classes'!

It was going to be an old aircraft and I thought it went tech and had to be grounded for days. In the end, it did go tech, and they flew a replacement up after hours of delays. I cancelled the upgrade and took another flight out. This seems to be the story for all of my upgrades.

Mate, I'd use the 'dislike', if there was one!

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

So far my success rate is 2/2. Y-J on SYD-JFK-SYD (QF107/108). Upgrade went through at t-23 for QF107 and approx. t-10 for QF108 and no SMS notification received. I am QF Silver. Best use of points IMO.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Another data point:
QF 9 MEL-LHR Y-J upgrade (from M class) for my two mini-me's at T-24 :) They are both PS. Shrek not happy as his QFF account has taken the hit

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

QF1 Y to J request for 4 pax. Expert Flyer showing F1 J0 W0, no upgrade ex SYD (boarding pass shows SYD - LHR), but upgraded to W in DXB for the DXB-LHR leg.

An op-up or points were taken out of your account?

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Funny you should ask. I have just checked my account to see if the points had posted, and while the points for QF1 SYD-LHR have posted as a single flight, no points have been deducted for the upgrade.

I guessed it was an op-up just because of the way upgrades are requested on QF website. Your upgrade request would have been unsuccessful and therefore cancelled when you left SYD.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgrade from Eco (S) to Business on QF9 MEL-DXB successful, so 1/1.

Unfortunately rest of the trip incl return on EK planes, so will have to grovel to EK attendants. I expect if I try in MEL to influence the following leg I'll just get told to ask in DXB.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

1/2 for Mrs Excel on PER>MEL>PER.

FlightStats showed J/2 D/1 I/0 U/0 at t-23, no email communication, re-requested at QP Perth, but J was full on departure so must have been others ahead in the queue (requested as PS). Flight on a 737-8.

Return flight Y(O) > J (U) granted on request at approx d-65 on an A330.

It was all a bit strange. About 3 days before travel and extra leg showed up in MMB. The original BNE-SYD-LHR was still there, but a SYD-LHR appeared along side it (same date & flight #).

Check in in BNE took some time as the agent said the extra booking (ticketed) was something to do with the upgrade, and they sometimes did it if there was a possibility of upgrading only one leg/splitting the upgrade. The long check in process was because they had to phone ticketing to make sure they checked us in to the right ticket, otherwise they would ruin any chance of an upgrade coming through. Gave us our boarding passes for BNE-SYD and SYD-LHR (all in Y) and suggested we check again in the SYD lounge.

On arrival at the SYD F lounge tried to explain what had happened and was basically told dont be so stupid that is not how it works, if the upgrade hadn't come though then it wouldn't be split.

Low and behold, entering the lounge in DXB, SWMBO couldn't find her SYD-LHR boarding pass, so the lounge agent went to re-print one and came back with 4x PE DXB-LHR, asking us "did we put in for an upgrade?".

Three days later points have posted but non have been deducted.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Now 100% success rate for this trip
J-F LHR-MEL booked in I class at T-60.
Reasonably busy cabin, nothing on the A side so will be checking out 5K again :) Tough gig I know ;)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

100% success rate for QFi.

1x Y->J FRA-SIN (back in the day... in 2010 from memory)
1x J->F SYD-LAX (+ MsChooms) this weekend

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

small question I didn't see earlier in this thread (maybe I missed it), when getting upgraded do you get SC at the original level (eg. eco) or final level (eg. business)?

You get SC for the fare you booked.
