Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Congrats danzel! I personally prefer 3 a or b on the reconfigured 747 but I think you will be more than comfortable in 1 k.

It does appear that your next to a bassinet seat though, let's hope no screaming kids!

Enjoy your flight and have fun!

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Currently 4/4 on QF 7/8 from PE (T class) and Y (M class).

Only had a text message once and that was in the US to my US cell. The other 3 I found out by checking MMB at T-23.

The most recent QF7 on Sunday the only two seats together were row 7 in the middle, ok we'll take that. Nice surprise on check in to be allocated 11 J/K.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Currently 3 from 4 upgrades successful all between OOL and SYD, 2 of those for 2 pax as-well.

Not bad i think for a NB.

Lets see how my SYD - SIN and return requests go.......

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Just checked our flights home and our upgrades have come through - QF12 tonight LAX-SYD 2x J (sale) to F. Thank-you Qantas :). Have whipped in and taken 1A and 1K - not my favourites but beggars can't be choosers :). So sitting on 50% for International upgrades. Have to say I don't like doing international upgrades, but they are incredible value and a useful tool when budgets are looking stretched.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgrade J (I) to F at T-22 for QF1 tomorrow. Lost 12A if anyone wants to nab it

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Another data point to add to this thread.
My J-F upgrade has just come through at T-60 on an I class booking for QF9 :)
Pretty happy as I think this is now one of the best uses of points.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I'm flying W class on QF107 tomorrow morning from SYD to LAX, I've requested an upgrade to J but still no info, I'm WP.I checked the My Bookings on Qantas.com.au and I got the below - does 'Status Waitlisted' mean that I'm in with a very long shot if someone doesn't make the flight or something?QF107 Sydney to Los Angeles Departs09:50 (Sat) Arrives06:30 (Sat) Duration:13h 40min QF107 Sydney to Los Angeles Departure Terminal 1 Arrival Terminal B Check in closes 90 minutes before departure Airport Guides See Guide Status Confirmed Upgrade status Requested Travel Class Premium Economy (W) Meal Lunch/Refreshment Flying on Boeing 747-400 Sep 06 Sydney to Los Angeles Departs 09:50 Arrives 06:30 Duration: 13h 40min QF107 Sydney to Los Angeles Departs09:50 (Sat) Arrives06:30 (Sat) Duration:13h 40min QF107 Sydney to Los Angeles Departure Terminal 1 Arrival Terminal B Check in closes 90 minutes before departure Airport Guides See Guide Status Waitlisted Upgrade status Requested Travel Class Business (U) Meal - Flying on Boeing 747-400

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I have had a very high success rate on Flexi-Saver to Business on MEL- SYD, SYD - DRW, MEL - DRW, MEL - PER, in both directions and SYD - SIN - MEL (don't remember the booking class)

Since April 2014 and including some bookings out to late October I have made 24 upgrade requests, 21 have been successful, 1 missed and 2 are pending. The unsuccessful one was a SYD - MEL morning flight.

The SYD - MEL upgrades seem to always be instant and the rest have varied from instant 40% to T-48 60%

Waitlisted means that it can't be confirmed yet. It's definitely more hopeful than if it's not there.
Did you request a gate upgrade?
I'm guessing this flight is pretty full in J

If you request for an upgrade but its only granted at the gate, is catering still assured?

IME when flights are quite full, as a WP if you don't get your upgrade confirmed at T-23, then it is often confirmed at T-10. So if I were you I'd be looking at my mobile for a QF SMS just before midnight;)

I've only had experience of one upgrade at the gate on Int J-F and the BP did not say "catering not assured". I was treated exactly the same as any other F passenger.
I think the only trouble you might have is if you had a special meal request.
I assume that in most cases QFi caters for full premium cabins.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I'm still maintaining my 100% record with another Y- to J for QF98. The SMS came in at about T-23. Was getting concerned since, as a WP, I was expecting some news at T-48.

Ah thanks.

Seat Alerts show a bunch of 'blocked' seats and two 'available' so fingers crossed!

Sitting on a a similar situation right now... QF82 SIN-SYD tomorrow has only two J seats left for sale, plus probably one or two flexis that will pull out or move to a later flight. Request in since booking a month ago... Y is also quite heavily sold, so fingers crossed. Blocked shadow in Y holding for now. I'm 100% for upgrade requests since becoming WP, so far! <bites fingers>

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I don't apply for upgrades much at all, although for the times I get them... well, it's both 100% and 0%. There's a 100% chance of an IRROP when my upgrade is successful, and I would end up getting a refund for the upgrade (J on the other flight is fully booked, etc) and hop on a different flight so I would get to the destination at a reasonable time.

So if you happen to be travelling on a flight which I've applied for an upgrade, be prepared for an IRROP.

And the 100% sticks, for now... no confirmation by SMS, but warned by 'Check My Trip' of a possible flight cancellation, whereas it was actually my seat being taken out of that cabin. Now reconfirmed with semi-preferred seat in J :)
