Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

An unsurprising fail for me on a BNE-MEL flight today, especially now I am back down to the lofty heights of NB and it is Melbourne Cup.

Me and her upgraded Melbourne to Singapore both ways ways. Out on 22nd, QF35, back on 29th, QF36. All to J.

Can I ask if you have status?
I'm flying QF35 next friday 15th on an awards Y booking and have the option to request upgrade to J for 58.8k points., I'm only Silver. Is the consensus here that the amount of points is reasonable considering a rewards J is 68.4k points ?

We had our economy to business upgrades (requested by platinum husband) confirmed well ahead of time, maybe T-72, on recent SYD-HKG and KIX-SYD flights. We weren't sure of our chances on the return as it was during the Rugby World Cup, so we were v thankful, particularly as it was an overnight flight.

Sorry just saw this, we both are WP and I booked premium economy to maximise our chances. Flight back had a couple of empty seats in J.

Success, WP, QF 29 MEL-HKG ,4 Nov, Y -> J from a Saver fare, got a text at about T-60. Not terribly surprising here as HKG loads are light these days - there were at least a half-dozen empty J seats. First time on QF 787 in any class - J was fine but I forgot how much I hate the 787 windows on day flights.

Computer said no for QF12 dep 9/11 J to F. I was sceptical it would come through, as for weeks, EF was showing F2. About a day or so before, it went to F0.

Success J > F on QF 11 26/10. Received the text at T-60.
When I searched EF earlier in the day, it was showing F6.

Oddly (to me), the F cabin was not full on that flight - the Harry Potter seat went unoccupied. I was quite happy with 3A.

Another success for me.
QF582 PER-SYD Y > J notified by SMS at T-29:13
I have now managed to avoid flying in Y on QF since 2 October 2015.
Sadly I am about to break that record on my upcoming trip to SCL, however.

Just checked in and not only do I have my favourite seat (7K) but I also scored an A330 with wifi.
Feel like a won a lottery.

Figured better late than never...

Success 22/9 MEL-LAX Y > W (~24 hours out)
Success 29/9 LAX-MEL Y > W (at the gate)
Success 5/11 MEL-SIN W > J (~54 hours out)
Success 8/11 SIN-MEL W > J (~24 hours out)

I finally remembered to share here, and my perfect record continues:

Success 6/11 QF1 SIN-LHR W > J (24 hours out)
Success 20/11 QF2 LHR-SIN W > J (at the lounge desk 1 hour out)
Success 21/11 QF36 SIN-MEL W > J (24 hours out)

I am QF Gold btw.

This makes it 7 out of 7 requests approved in the past 14 months, all on long haul and all from W to J. Previous upgrades included LAX-JFK, LAX-SYD, HKG-SYD and LAX-MEL.

Success!

25/11 QF12 NYC-LAX Y+(award) > J (T-28)

Booking and upgrade was requested by me for mum (both Bronze). Woke up this morning, checked the QF app and it is showing as Business and points deducted. The only issue is that QF IT is showing Generic Error when I'm trying to select her seat, and now it is also not showing her seat as being selected on her 2nd leg on QF 12 LAX-SYD in F (award).

EF was showing J9 C9 D9 I9 U0 W9 T9 Z0 over the past fortnight, even up to T-36 when I last checked. So it is possible to score an upgrade even as a lowly Bronze!

"Sorry, but" on MEL-SYD last week. I (bronze) submitted classic award request about a week out, with 4 seats empty per Expert Flyer. My colleague (bronze) had no upgrade request, but had paid $25 for exit row. 24 hours out, he checked in, and was upgraded to J. 30 minutes later, I received the notification my request was unable to be fulfilled on this occasion..... He didn't even request the upgrade! Completely full flight. Trying to sell the same exit row seats twice?

I can't imagine they were trying to double-up on exit row fees if the op-up happened at check-in, but a very interesting anecdote nonetheless. I'm sure there were dozens of status pax on a peak hour MEL-SYD flight, so the fact QF upgraded your NB colleague over its own elites and waitlisted classic upgrades is just another great example of Qantas' consistent inconsistency.

I have booked an award J flight on the QF A380.
I don’t seem to have an option to upgrade it to F. Is this standard or should I be able to upgrade to F with points ?
