Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Sorry for my ignorance, are these are upgrades paid with points? I have SYD - HK booked for end of year and can see the option to request upgrade with a hefty points payment (55k one way), trying to decide if it's worth it or not
Yes, this thread is primarily about successful / unsuccessful points upgrade requests.

FYI, if it's a larger number of points required it's because you bought a discount fare ("Red e-Deal" or similar). A full fare economy fare will require fewer points to upgrade. Sale fares aren't eleigible for upgrades at all.

Question. Does anyone know if there is any particular system for domestic upgrades?
Is it just first in best dressed?
Does status count at all?
I am talking about the wait listed upgrades not the instant upgrades.

I think I can answer my own question.
Upgrade success!
QF 582 PER-SYD notification by SMS at T-28.
Y->J obviously. As a WP.
Pretty good article on how QF upgrades are allocated here.

Mr FM has been successful with an upgrade Mel-cbr on Monday QF812. Award Y - J. Requested 2 months ago and notified at t-72. (He is platinum).

Two more successes.
SYD-MEL on QF427 confirmed by SMS at T-72
MEL-PER on QF9 confirmed by SMS at T-60
I am looking forward to the international catering on QF9.
The champagne will keep flowing after a few hours in the F lounge!

Looks like no upgrade to first qf1 tomorrow, still showing 2 seats but plane is refurbished 380 & I’m extremely happy.😀

I think you have a good chance SYD-SIN but not SIN-LHR.
Wait till T-24. Good luck!

I wouldn’t want to have first, then return to J for rest of flight. I have a single seat now, only 2nd time in this j configuration. It’s the space to put your items that I like & not being in a row of 2. I was very excited when I realised flt over was n refurbished 380. Now if the old 380 is flt back & I was offered first, I would jump at it.

i definitely didn’t get upgrade to F, hope died when text message arrived. BUT I was more than happy with refurbish 13a seat. It’s the space to put things I really appreciated. Not particularly looking forward to return on ‘old’ 380 J. Still it’s J, not Y.

Mrs (SG) Pineapple's requests unsuccessful on QF128 17/10 HKG-SYD, and 18/10 QF516 SYD-BNE. Was moderately hopeful re HKG-SYD as she was on flexible Y+ (W) and (B) fares successively and a few days out was showing J7 C5 D0 I0. Alas soon after three people appeared to shift from QF118 to 128 and then three more J gone as they presumably handed out the WP upgrades.

She'd always been successful in the good old days when QF128 was a 747.

Consolation prize was carefully curated seats in row 20 on the 787 and row 4 on the 737. Not very much consolation as Mrs Pineapple has joined the long line of 787 Y+ seat haters, citing in particular the flaky netting footrest and the inability to recline because the seat control was too stiff, and not helped by the sh!te pasta dish.

Upgrade would have been a lay-down misere on QF97 BNE-HKG which was half empty in Y+ and J. Just looking at QF availability on that route over the next week and the daytime BNE-HKG on QF97 looks like a sweet spot at the moment, showing J9 C9 D9 I9 every day for the next week. J availability much more patchy on the (overnight) return QF98. The 787 for 97/98 on Wednesdays appears to disappear after next week.

Cheers skip

QF107 Y to J upgrade rejected at -11hrs (SMS at 3am dae...) only to get upgraded at boarding.
Y was 100% full so I guess someone didn't show up...

I'll take it ;)
Congrats!
They generally keep a couple of seats back to accomodate a last minute J purchase - this is probably what you were able to acccess on boarding.

Another success.
Booked PER-MEL for tomorrow morning at about 03:40 this morning.
Upgrade confirmed by SMS at 05:07 (about T-27).

Flying back in the evening after a meeting so fingers crossed for the return flight!
