Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Success Y->W (requested J) just before boarding at the lounge for QF93 MEL-LAX. Plane is full so counting myself lucky

And now Y->J success on the return QF94 LAX-MEL at T-60 as a WP. I was a little surprised it cleared this early as QF96 is not flying on a Thursday so expected less availability on QF94.

Fingers crossed Mrs HockeyMonkey as a NB on a separate ticket has some success or it might get awkward.

My brother (as a NB) put in his request about a week ago and just found out that his upgrade Y>PE accepted for his flight 28 hours out. He’s stoked.

Also has an upgrade request in for QF654 PER/BNE on Saturday - put in his request 24 hours ago once I transferred enough points to him

My wife (WP) got the same upgrade on the same flight - only notified a couple of hours before departure though.

@Per_Travels , he was originally in 23A but was moved to 22E (probably because higher ranking QFF member requested seat). Was it your wife  :D

Was following him on Flightradar24 from time to time on the journey and sent him some clips, he thought I was a bit of a nerd...

His request for upgrade to Business on QF654 PER/BNE was unable to be confirmed, so he had to slum it in whY.

Oh no - I can confirm that my wife sat in 23A  but also that she had nothing to do with seat allocation - she simply saw her assigned seat change from 24D (I think - front row of economy) to 23A when she was on her way to Heathrow. We'd used my points to request an upgrade to J that hadn't come through and then she got a txt when she woke up that morning informing her that her upgrade request to PE had been unsuccessful. I was quite surprised when she txt'd me to say her seat had changed (and the points didn't come out of my account until about a day later).
This was the first time I've tried requesting an upgrade so was interested to see how the process worked (or almost didn't work) for my wife.

So, an update on the upgrade request

I did not get upgraded to J on my recent flight from HKG to SYD QF128.

The flight was delayed by almost 4 hours and the departure time was moved from 19:30 to 20:40 then to 21:40 then to 22:30 before finally departing HKG at around 23:15

I was approaching the desk nearby the boarding gate to see if I could sneak in a chance to upgrade, nope. No chance and I was told that my name was not even in the top 3 people to be upgraded, if a seat became empty :(

I would've loved to experience my first Dreamliner J seat, but didn't happen :(

So, I did not get upgraded on a flight that was delayed by over 4 hours and had to miss work the next day because we touched down in Sydney at around 9 AM and I couldn't go to work straight from airport.

By the time I reached home it was 11 AM and so I called in and told I'm taking off

Overall, not a good experience, but hey, we can't control/expect everything to go as per plan :)

On the upside though - on my onward from HKG-MAA I was upgraded to PE as Y was overbooked and on return from MAA-HKG I got upgraded to PE as Y was overbooked :) And on HKG-SYD, I was able to get on a bulkhead seat, so enjoyed a bit more of legroom than a standard Y seat

Lucky roll - QF15 BNE-LAX and QF16 LAX-BNE from PE to J both ways, advised about 24 hours in advance both times. I've been fortunate so far on all of my long QF 787 flights picking up upgrades, and not having to "slum" it in PE. Hopefully with more US flights evolving out of Brisbane this run might continue !

Unfortunately there was no upgrade received on this ocassion (QF71 PER-SIN 25/7/19). Being only a NB though I was expecting to stay where I was. Wasn't all bad though as I had a spare seat next to me towards the back so could spread out a bit.

QF7 on Sunday the 21st July as a Silver - nope
QF94 on Friday the 26th July as a Gold - nope

Late posting but on 11 May 2019 on QF02 LHR-SIN I had an upgrade request from Y to J, no luck, but boarding pass beeped at the gate and I was bumped to the last PE seat.
Then on 12 May 2019 on QF72 SIN-PER I did receive an upgrade from Y to J and was notified by SMS at about T-24 (as far as I can tell, I was in Paris at the time).
Both classic points upgrade requests, as a Gold QFF.

Success for QF11 SYD-LAX on 6/08/2019, PE to Business, SMS at about T-27 hours.

Edit: Concerning though my points balance has been decreased by about 66,000 points when it should be 49,500 points, and the upgrade transaction does not appear on the activity statement.

Last time upgrade request to J didn't go through.

I've put in a request from Saver Y to J on QF127, 14th Aug 2019, SYD-HKG, B747. If this request goes through, looking forward to ride on the hump. Fingers crossed.

Can someone check EF for the seats remaining for upgrade to J, please? would like to know if there are any J seats left for upgrade. TIA :)
