Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

I've not reported on upgrade success in some time, but going back over the numbers, it looks like I'm 50/50 in about the last 12 months.

Received: Y>J SIN-xMEL-SYD (changed routing from direct to improve odds) & Y>J HKG-SYD x 1
Denied: Y>J SYD-SIN x 1, Y>J SIN-SYD x 1 and Y>J SYD-HKG x 1

Overall now at 86.8% as WP on upgrades.

Cheers,
Matt.

Haven't found the answer through search but are sale fares completely out of the question for an upgrade (i know points are excluded), even at checkin counter w/ cash?
Basically, yes ... out of the question these days.

There were reports in the past but last I saw was over a decade ago.

With points upgrades to the gate they likely dont need it so much.

Successful J > F on QF7 SYD to DFW for 9 June. QF WP notified at T-60. Looks like 3 upgrades were processed in the same batch.

Flying BNE/MEL/PER tomorrow, after booking a couple of weeks ago and immediately putting in the requests however both were waitlisted.

Got these from the QF Upgrade Fairy this afternoon, at T-27.5 and T-28.5

When changing seats, I snagged the last J seat on BNE/MEL (B738) and there are still 3 middle seats available on MEL/PER (A332)

Have had a good afternoon

Just made a paid booking SYD-PER-SYD for December. Put in an upgrade request from Y - J and automatically processed! Quite surprised with this, as a QF Silver, very happy to have a bed for a few hours before work.

Unsuccessful J to F on QF35 this week as WP.

EF showed F3 for a long while, then F1 24 hours prior to departure.

QF98 HKG-BNE tomorrow night, Y to J confirmed at T-28.
QF silver booked as flexible Y.

First time flying QF in J so excited to see how the Roo performs...

I really like the Y cabin on the international A330 so you picked a good flight to upgrade! It's the best night's sleep I've gotten on a plane, although I do always skip the on-board food as the lounge at HKG always fills me up.

Hello all
I have submitted an upgrade request for a family member who is travelling with me. Im booked in F, they are in J. Linked bookings - not the same I am WP fam member is SG. I have been getting conflicting advice if the upgrade priority for them is platinum or gold from differing members of the QF Call centre. does anyone know for sure?

The upgrade will be done with the other SG flyers. But the request will be at the top of the SG queue as you are WP.

no luck W > J on QF26 Monday night.
Flight oversold and people asked to downgrade to Y.
There was a large JTB tour group on the flight.

Just to add my recent experience. Unfortunately, due to a change of job, I no longer travel as much as I used to, so dropped to Lifetime SG last year from WP.
I was booked on a sale premium economy fare, BNE-LAX on 6/6, returning LAX-BNE 12/6 (tonight). I also did not have enough points for an upgrade request either way.
One week out from the first flight, I was offered a bid now upgrade to Business, I offered 15k points plus $800 - offer was accepted about 30 hours out from flight - great flight on the 787.
I was waiting for T-7d for the return flight, Expert Flyer was showing J,C,D,I 9's - no email. I then had this crazy idea - top up points!. I only needed another 15k points, so cost around $500 to purchase, was able to request a classic upgrade award. Anxiously watching the loads - T-48h was at J8 C8 D8 I5. Checked my points balance at T-30h - points deducted - success! Now will be sitting in 1a for the ride back.
Now since the upgrade happened, one of the A380s went tech, so QF 94 and QF93 were both cancelled on the 12th, so all flights from LAX suddenly zeroed out and all seats occupied. Interestingly, only received the text notifying me of the upgrade about an hour ago (T-7h).
So overall, very happy with the result, ended up with 2 quite cheap business class flights.

just put in a request for the qf 1 departing this saturday to F. (WP) I cant see any commercial seats left for sale on the qf website. does that mean close to zero chance?

All the QF1 segments - SYD-LHR, SYD-SIN and SIN-LHR are showing F0 - so the chances are as close to zero as you are likely to get. It is always possible someone will cancel, or change dates, so availability may open up for a last minute upgrade, but I would be expecting to remain in J.

thanks equus.
Im sure there is probably 5-10 wp in front of me as it is.
qf 35 looks a little better same day - im just going to sin, but again reroute probably not worth it and i would be down the UpGr list

Had put in upgrade request last week after booking ADL/BNE and sweeping all family points into my account (had 388 to spare).

No SMS success email sent, so at T-24 checked my account and saw the points had been deducted so went online to select seat.

Missed out on a W to J request on QF4 Friday 14 Jun
This has now seriously disrupted my 100% success rate.
Now sitting at 97.6%.
