Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

After any clue as to the following: QF2 on 16th in PE x2 as Silver (dreadful I know) requested upgrades. Just looking on the QF app it says the seat map is no longer available. Does that mean anything?

Assuming you mean looking for J seats on the entire LHR-SYD QF2 it's a "maybe" but my guestimate is likely about 40% chance. Showing J7 C6 D4 in J. Given Silver.... plus F is only F2, so only a couple could potentially move up. You'd know in the next 24h as the Golds are processed(and Silvers). good luck.

Thank you Richard. It's actually only SIN to SYD. Just received confirmed upgrade request at T-36 as silvers. Not seated together, but that is fine by me.

QF7 SYD-DFW 28-MAR-19 Discount J to F - success at T-56.

Submitted request some months ago. Been watching the J (and Y+) cabin fill whilst yesterday 4 F seats taken. F cabin now 11/14 taken, Y+ still pretty busy.

BD

Fail. DRW-MEL this afternoon.
Didn't really need an SMS at 0515 this morning to wake me up and tell me the bad news.

I'd assumed it wasn't happening when it didn't come through when I booked it last month.

I requested an upgrade on both flights for MEL-OOL return a few weeks ago. No upgrade on either flight.

QF154 AKL-MEL today was unsuccessful. Booked in Flex Y with upgrade requested from P1 family member (I’m Gold). 1 seat free when I was in the lounge but the lounge attendant said I was second on the upgrade list.

That's unlucky.

That's unlucky.

Yes. Always a bit dubious how these requests are treated as the lounge attendant looked at the upgrade list and said it showed me as Gold and he was of the opinion P1 requests for family members didn’t confer any higher status at the gate. I didn’t point out the P1 benefits/website and just left it at that.

Same story with QF9 as well on 01/04

What comparative Y->J upgrade success rates are WP's seeing between QF94 (A380) and QF96 (787) between LAX and MEL?

From my own small sample set, I've only managed a Y->PE upgrade on the 787 previously 2/2 times and Y->J 2/4 and Y->PE 1/4 times on the A380.

I would expect more success on the A380 due to the larger and dated J cabin. Does that match others experiences?

Success: QF880 11-May x2 Y->J. Submitted request immediately on booking in February; SMS received this morning.

Regards,

BD

The "upgrade fairy" is certainly dusting me this week:

Success: QF881 12-May x2 Y->J just cleared and informed.

BD

Haven't found the answer through search but are sale fares completely out of the question for an upgrade (i know points are excluded), even at checkin counter w/ cash?

Declined HKG-MEL QF30 Y-J x2 27/5/2019, Expert flyer had 11 blocked J seats 48 hours before, showed only 1 available at T-12, suspect if I had submitted request for 1PAX may have had success, didn't see if the cabin was full but pretty annoyed, QFF Gold on a flexi ticket.

Welcome to AFF. Predicting success is still very much guesswork, but as you say going for 2 may well reduce your chances. But needs must often, unless willing to sacrifice good relations with your travel partner. :)

QF 11 on 1 May Y+ to J was successful, notified at about T-64 or so.
QF16 on 9 May Y+ to J was not successful. EF was showing J1 while I was still in the lounge at LAX. I was unable to board with my boarding pass. The desk staff said nothing yet, but that I couldn't yet board as the upgrade was still "pending". There seemed to be another WP (based on seeing him in th e Flounge) waiting at the desk as well. While we both stood there looking awkward, another man came up, said his boarding pass wasn't working, and he'd like one that works (somewhere between LOL and Rolling eyes was my internal reaction). After he got his upgrade (I'm assuming), the staff member checked my BP and the other waiting pax's BP, and we were advised we could board.

I knew it was slim chances for an upgrade, but I haven't ever been able to not board before. It did give me the opportunity to see a colleague who was on QF16 as well. As we chatted at the luggage carousel on arrival in BNE, he asked me if I'd been in the lounge in LAX. I said I had. He hadn't seen me, he said ... so I fessed up that I was in the Flounge. Felt bad for not guesting him in, though until I saw him boarding the flight, I didn't know we were on the same flight.
