Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Not heard of that happening before, I suppose it depends on whether he heard you say "I want to upgrade from PE to J". If he's triggered the upgrade request, then if he didn't ask you for your CC details, perhaps he has put in a points upgrade request.
Thanks. I did specifically say I did want to bid on a seat, and he had my card details from the $2 I had to pay. I got as far as seeing it was a dollar amount - not points upgrade. I still cannot modify the amount or see the payment details. It keeps giving me a message saying “error”. I’ll just go with the flow. The amount was $100 less than I bid coming across to the States.

I'm still fairly new to QF, trying to understand what makes a booking eligible for a bid now upgrade and how far out will the system let a request be entered?

I have SYD > YVR booked 07/03 - 21/03 revenue fare in PE T class. When I entered my booking it still says it is not eligible, I'd assume by now it should be?

Can someone help shed some light on this?

Qantas will have an algorithm to determine if they want or need to put the opportunities out there, based on flight fare availability and existing classic upgrade requests, which do take precedent over the Bid Now upgrades. Based on below numbers for the dates you mentioned, I'd imagine there won't be anything offered for these flights, unless the number of classic upgrade award requests is low for the flights. Never say never, but plan on flying what you booked. Good luck!

Cheers,
Matt.

Would someone mind running QF2 on 7 March through EF and making a guess of my (Platinum) chances of a Y -> J upgrade?

Maybe yes, maybe no. I am guessig you are booked LHR-SYD? Your chances are of course much better if you are a solo traveller.

Just got the Business upgrade success SMS for QF76 from YVR on 19/3 - almost exactly 60 hours before departure. Both passengers are WP and this was a classic upgrade from Premium.

Super bargain sale BNE-PER return. Once ticket issued submitted upgrade for both flights. Flight to PER ‘we’ll let you know’, return flight upgraded immediately

Did I post in incorrect thread?

Discussion about Platinum & Platinum One classic award releases (which is what I thought you were referring to) is probably best off in the thread I linked above. Any other flight availability/loading requests usually go here iirc.

Thanks for your advice and yes I am platinum and wanted to request release of 2 J seats. I note that there is no U bucket so I assume this is bad news?

I is the bucket you are after for requesting classic awards as a Platinum.

You have a reasonable chance of it being approved, July isn't usually a busy month on the SYD-HND route as it's unbearably hot & humid in most of Japan, and not a holiday period for them so little AU-bound tourist traffic.

Worth having a read of the wiki article on WP/P1 award releases: Preferential Access to Qantas Classic Reward Seats (wiki content) - Australian Frequent Flyer

If you'd consider departing on 24/7, both QF25 and QF79 (MEL-HND) have I9. If you'd consider departing on 26/7, QF25 is I9 also.

Thanks again. Will read the article and call them. Going through to Europe and (as always) difficult getting out of Oz. Your help is much appreciated.

PER-MEL Friday1st April, rebooked and upgrade immediately requested March 22nd. Successful upgrade text received just now, March 29th.

So not always instant. QF were probably hoping for some cash J bookings. Sorry, date is too close to book for the DSC promotion! 🤣

WP successfully upgrading QF95 MEL-LAX from Y to Y+ for tomorrow after only booking the flight 4 days ago.

Didn’t expect to get to J as there wasn’t any revenue J fares available either.

Looking forward to flying again after a two year hiatus
