Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

I feel Japan is still very leisure heavy. I’m not aware of much business travel between the two as compared to SIN or HKG or mainland China. I can imagine ICN loads are similar for the same reason.

I guess, but I've taken QF25/26 3 times in the last few months and they've all had full J cabins. I suppose that was just higher premium leisure demand?

As a newbie to points upgrades, I have a quick question(s).

Back in Feb I booked revenue tix for 2 pax LHR-SYD direct with BA, in PE. Flight is mid Oct.
There's a stopover in SIN so the leg LHR-SIN is in PE on BA metal but SIN-SYD doesn't have PE available so they downgraded us to Y. This is a QF flight.
Was browsing the QF website today and stumbled across my booking with a link to upgrade the SIN-SYD leg to J for 29,900 points per pax. Yes please, so I went ahead and submitted the request.

No confirmation email, nothing.
So what happens now?

Did you get any compensation for the downgrade?

About your upgrade request, there is no email comfirmation. You may check it's in by trying again to request the upgrade via the website, you should only have the option to cancel your upgrade request. Depending on your status with Qantas, you may get a notification of success of failure within a few days from the trip. So at this stage, you just wait, and hope for the best say 24h before the trip. Good luck.

I wouldn't call it a downgrade if it was originally ticketed as Y.

Anyway, upgrades are definitely supported on tickets issued by other airlines, I've done it before on a QF flight on CX ticket.

As a bronze expect an update on your upgrade request around 24 hours out from the flight.

Just be sure it's a QF flight number (QF82 I assume?) rather than the BA codeshare on the SIN-SYD of course.

CBR-MEL. Got the email spruiking cash and points to upgrade which of course I deleted. Instead I submitted a points only request, after getting errors for a while (seemingly because my flight hadn’t been ticketed yet - after the booking email finally came through, I could finally request the upgrade).

SMS to say it was successful came through at T-28 and points deducted. Sweet.

But now it looks like there’s been an aircraft swap - to an all economy 717? Originally allocated to 13F or something, I moved to row 2. Can’t see the part in the T&Cs about getting a refund.

If you don't automatically get a refund, give them a call. I know that for cancelling a cash booking with points upgrade, you need to call them up to get the points. Might be the same for aircraft change.

They ended up calling me to tell me what I already knew, that the upgrade had fallen through due to the swap. They said the points would be refunded within 48 hours but I got them back already so at least that worked out.

Successfull upgrade from Y to J
QF88 ICN to SYD on 30 May
Confirmation at T-30 as WP

Success at T-28 as a WP Myself
QF70 (Delhi-Melbourne) from flexible Y to J.

Quite relieved about it after the flight over in Y and given I understand there's no lounge in Delhi.

Friend of mine recently - she is SG:

Approx 13 April - QF1 SYD LHR W to J confirmed just before check in opened

3 May - QF10 LHR PER W to J confirmed just before check in opened, and her colleague (status unknown) also scored a points upgrade on this flight but it was possibly confirmed a little later? Not sure exactly when.

I was on QF10 in J on 2 May (not using points) and can confirm the J cabin was completely full including 1 youngish guy in 5A whose seat had a ribbon across it "does not recline" 😱 That's a long flight to be sitting upright! I hope at least the leg rest was working. But I can't imagine QF would assign that seat to anyone other than an upgrade of some kind, whether op up or points.

I believe deadheading crew or staff on staff travel would be more likely to be in such a seat vs. a pax upgrading.

QF932 PER-BNE. Upgrade from Y to J for two passengers at T-72. Thank you, Qantas! I decided to cancel the upgrade request for BNE-CNS. Only 2.5 hours mid afternoon flight after lunch in the lounge.
