Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

QF8 - Sun 14/11 Y Flex to J ATG

Was rather miffed that they took the points given that this was my 3rd attempt to leave Texas, original flights cancelled and rebooked connecting flight delayed to the point of missing the rebooked QF12, then ended up back on QF8 again 3 days later!
 
What has happened to immediate upgrades on domestic flights if an available business class award is available at the time of booking? Have requested the upgrade but hasn't been confirmed and there is definitely award seats available.

Was this immediately after booking? Have you received your e-ticket?

Has been about 8 hours since the booking was placed. Received e-ticket quite quickly. Tried twice now to get the upgrade confirmed so have resorted to calling call centre and now trying to get it sorted.

Maybe QF is hoping the seats will either sell for cash or be booked as J classic reward seats and are leaving time for this to happen. How many classic reward J seats were available to book?

I'm able to see award availability when I book for 9. Its an A330 operated flight. The call centre stated that they could only request the upgrade using points and couldn't confirm it.

Need more information to consider Why?

Was the A330 flight Domestic? International? Route?
 
All I'm trying to do is upgrade the MEL-SYD flight for 10,900 points and it has let me request it but hasn't been confirmed like it has done every time previously for me. So other than to try the call centre again, the only other option I was considering was to cancel the request and try it again tomorrow.
 
I suspect the 27.6k is points plus pay, booking into I.

Not all awards are equal.

To upgrade into business on points, you need U class available.
