Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

I suspect I was made to wait a bit longer given my newly attained status.

Hmm, I wouldn't read that much into it. Qantas would prefer to hang onto a few full fare J seats for last minute business travel rather than give them out at T-48. Last minute SYD-HND J return is up to ~13k, yikes..

They are likely to fill that final seat with an upgrade at the gate.

QF12 on Thurs 18/5, Y+ to J SMS received early afternoon on 16/5 US EDT. WP. EF had been showing J9 for weeks, with maybe 15 seats unselected in the seat map.

You will probably be able to sort something out at SYD F check-in, or while you wait at the lounge, but it could depend on status of others in the cabin or their willingness to move about a little.
Enquired on check-in at F and they looked into it, but yeah, no go short of us asking pax when onboard and I’m not going to do that to the good folks in J. Politely thanked the staffer for her trouble in looking regardless.

Upgrades from Y flex to J as an SG.
Wed 7/6 QF81 SYD-SIN request denied at T-10 hours but given at the gate. Must have been due to a late cancellation because the J cabin was full and the flight overall packed.

Wed 7/6 QF2 SIN-LHR accepted at T-24:20 hours. My first properly long J flight and suitably an overnight one. A happy camper here. :D

QF81 Y FLEX —> J denied overnight (as expected). This is the third time in a row.QF Gold, put the request in a couple of weeks ago.

QF470 unsuccessful T-4. Bronze and on a Red e-Deal fare using their sorry voucher.

Didn't mind too much; never sat in an A330 Economy seat before

I put an upgrade request for my parents (who are on separate bookings) from Y to J on QF38. One successful, one unsuccessful. All bronze.

Ouch… so which one won’t be talking to you at Christmas lunch, then?

hahaha I hope the one that can't sleep sitting up goes to J.

Given the class is O, I didn't think we stood much chance at all, but put the request through anyways. First time I've put a request and one came through. So very surprised and happy.
