Qantas want to give me money

I received an email from Qantas today saying I'm getting a refund of $10 for a Passenger Movement Charge for which I was overcharged. They will refund to the original card. That card is dead and buried so I rang Qantas and got through to useless call centre staff who told me so many different versions of what happens next that I don't believe any of them.

Has anyone else had this type of issue? How did you get the $$?
 
Ten years or so ago when I made LTG I thought I would see what happened with the ten months of QP membership I had on suspension for the 15 years I had membership through status, Qantas were happy to refund this to the original form of payment in 1997, and had no alternatives, gave up.
 
I had an issue with Origin recently who asked for my bank account details to process a refund for two accounts. Cue a long email back-and forth where they said they'd transfer the money soon, then said no it has to be to the original payment method, then said it couldn't be a joint bank account, then said it'll have to be another credit card. Eventually, after much insistence by me, the money was transferred to a bank account.

Similarly, Hilton insisted they can only issue a refund to the original card but, after much insistence by me and showing evidence the original card was closed, money was refunded to a different Amex in my name.

I think some members here regularly overpay bills or cancel orders and get refunds to another payment type to avoid points/cash clawbacks. Perhaps they might share the tricks of the trade.
 
I've had money refunded from QF. I had to provide a statutory declaration stating the original credit card had been closed and include my bank account details.

It took a couple of calls but we got there in the end.
 
Thanks, I'll get one written up and send it to them. I was told to wait because they would contact me when their transfer bounces from my account. (Yeah, right!)

How long has the card been closed for? Generally I find if it's less than a year the refund will actually succeed and you'll have to contact the bank to retrieve your money.

Interesting! Thanks for this. Definitely less than a year so I'll wait a few weeks and try them.

I got the same email yesterday. Will keep an eye out for the windfall.
Can you let us know when it hits your account? Then I'll know to follow up the various avenues of where mine went.

I got my statement today and the credit already posted on 10th January. And since I booked this flight in February 2024 my card has been compromised twice and they had to issue a new one with a new card number each time but they still managed to post the $10 refund which is surprising.
