No, but if I attend the Ball (assuming Fri night) then no use having an SC run starting Sat early AM, is there :rolleyes:

Considering it finishes at midnight tonight (the offer), I think I'm out. Spent enough on flying this month (albeit all tax deductible) whereas this would be out-of-pocket

Have you been to Longreach? If not, $98 out of pocket isn’t too bad ;)

I was looking at markis10's 2 day itinerary...now that is an SC I can relate to...

That I can’t help you with, considering it’s significantly more.

Yes, been to LRE (went for a weekend to attend a cousins engagement) in 1992 (I think it was). Went to everything Longreach offered, with quite a number of others from the event.

Don't forget samh004 that I have a wife, 2 children and responsibilities.

I know… I guess it’s hard to imagine what that means until I’m in the same situation.

All I can say is enjoy the sleep, would not change anything now that I have kids but I do miss the freedom of being single, a SC run in Asia is no longer a possibility for me, but I would take the time I get to spend with the kids anyday over hours in the tube, even in J.:D

Booked!

Nov 13 to LRE and Nov 14 out of LRE.

Looks like we'll have a small contingent out there in LRE from AFF. At least that's enough (and a good number) to split the costs of a hire car.

What you slept in this morning; ;) don't you mean; 1:45am.:shock:

3:45am NZ time = 1:45am AEDST.
Yes.

So will the LAN flights credit or will you have to chase them up. :p
I may have to chase the trip over but as LAN is now not flying the due to the earthquake we came back on QF50 so hopefully that will post OK.

November doesn't work for me; I should be in Europe that time of year.

BNE-SYD-CBR-SYD-CFS-SYD-BNE; is that a bit much for one day. :?:
Nov does not work either as Hawaii and a cruise beckons.

Hire care for LRE??? ;)

Walk from airport to at least 2 motels is about 5 mins (and that would include waiting for a long freight train to pass). Walk from those motels into "town" would be no more than 10-15 mins maybe. See http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou....441475,144.258857&spn=0.019687,0.038581&z=15

The only reason you'd want a hire care is to head out of LRE somewhere else.

Earlier someone, i think, referred to the 2 segments per day limit of the multi city booking engine when putting together the runs - anat0l maybe. I was playing with the multi city the other day and I made a mistake with putting in the date for the first segment, and didn't realise before starting the search. In the search results screen I was then able to change the date of all segments on the left side bar thing, to a later day that was also the same date. So I was able to have 3 segments on the same day and get upto the enter passenger details screen.

Thought that was interesting and might be useful to know.

Nope. Will book SYD-CBR-SYD then SYD-CFS-SYD. Planning to do the SYD-CBR-SYD as my first MR. When arriving back in SYD will then do SYD-CFS same day then CFS-SYD next day after a night with mates in CFS.
 That is exactly what i suggested. You want SYD-CBR-xSYD-CFS-SYD, which is what you will get if doing the booking search as SYD-CBR-CFS-SYD. Especially useful as the multi city booking engine only lets you book 2 routes on each day, so if you what to have only 1 PNR .......

You can walk from LRE airport to the rest of town??

Cool  :!:

At least none of us will need to fight over who has to stay sober viz. designated driver back to airport.

I know you can get more than 2 "flights" (a flight may have more than one sector/leg on it) per day using that technique (also by leaving dates as flexible and then using the "date tabs" on the main part of the flight/fare selection screens).

But what you cannot have is specify in the multi-city flight search is more than one departure from point of origin. For example, if you try and enter in the multi-city engine:

Flight 1: BNE - BKQ
Flight 2: BNE - MKY
Flight 3: TSV - BNE

this will fail (can't have more than 1 x BNE - xx_ explicitly specified). You can, of course, have more than one BNE - xx_, but it will need to be integrated into the routing of one of the flights you've specified explicitly. This is what has been done in creating the better SC run in this thread (which will cost much more in a matter of 10-15 minutes according to the timestamp of this post).

You can walk from LRE airport to the rest of town??

It really isn't a big town. Just did a Google Maps distance, and it claims ~ 2.6km from airport gate to the main pub strip in town (so I was out by a little bit on the distance ... perhaps 20 - 30 mins walk). I'd walk it (Mid Nov could be a bit warm!). But it also does depend on where you're staying. If you're staying at the Albert Park Motor Inn for example - it's only 300m from the airport "terminal", and 2.3Km from the main pub street of town.

For an experienced walk professional like yourself ... that's probably 1/10th of your daily allowance!

I was thinking the same thing.

Then again, it will be 2 days.

Anyone else make use of the sale fares before they disappeared tonight? Well… in about 2 minutes.

Edit: Appears they disappear at midnight Saturday, and now there’s a very specific sale right in the middle of school holidays!

I ended up booking SYD-CBR-SYD-CFS then CFS-SYD-CBR-SYD the next day.

Bit under $300 for 60SC, 6000 points and a nice night on the cans in CFS.

Great sale QF!

Well BKQ and ISA are booked, interestingly I got the option to offset carbon use fro the BKQ run, but not the ISA run

Good work enjoy.

I couldn't justify bookig any of these trips. Either from SYD or to do LRE. But will probably look at a SIN-BKK return later in the year to make WP.

I'm bumping this thread as I appear to be the only one going, and will be posting photos while I am there, though not too many as I forgot my iPhone charger so will have to ration power.

Going to grab a few bananas to take with me, as I don't expect I'm likely to get a large breakfast on the plane.

Planning to do the Stockmans Hall of Fame today, as I hear it can take a whole day, then I'm staying at the Discovery Holiday Park as it was the only hotel that allowed me to earn QF points, and tomorrow I'll be doing the Founders Museum and an Ultimate tour that includes the secrets of the 747, 707 and a 747 wing walk.

However... rain and thunderstorms are forecast, so I'm not sure if it's going to be a wet weekend for me or not. I was planning on walking everywhere, and that might not be so much fun in the rain ;)

I shall do an update around lunchtime hopefully.

Had a wonderful day at the Qantas Founders Museum, having a look inside the 707 and 747, while also doing a wing walk on the 747. At student prices it was nice and cheap.

Looked around the exhibits, visited the original hangar and then had a late lunch. I had the fysh, no joke ;)

Staying at the Discovery Holiday Park and with weather approaching I had a brisk walk to the accom and now I'm just relaxing under the cool air of an aircon.

Apparently the servo over the road serves dinner, so if it buckets down as predicted a mad dash across the road should be easier than a 15-min walk to town.

I did this tour a few weeks back with a mate, stayed at the same place as you did. Easy walk into town for a few beers and dinner (luckily when we were there it was fine).

By far my favorite part of the day was the 707 tour. To see and hear the history of that 1st 707 was eye opening, and the lengths they went to find it, restore it, and bring it back to LRE, was awesome.

Certainly something that I would recommend to do if you're a QF loyalist.
