Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

Its a viper's nest of rules!

I can see their logic, but it doesn't make sense: if someone travels enough to earn OWE and QF Gold, he's a high spender and surely you want him to get the best experience, not to cheap out and downgrade them to the QC lounge.
"Ah yes, you've obviously spent $xx_XX to achieve this level on two fronts, please follow me into the QC to be serenaded by the dulcet tones of screaming children as people fill their bags with pastries before their top bundle JQ flight. No don't look back towards the J lounge full of the quiet tapping of keyboards, QC is the place for you."

I have just thrown my hat into the status match as well, I must say mapping on a 1 on 1 basis between VA and QR seems awfully generous, let's hope it comes through.

Does Qatar do a soft drop? If we get matched to platinum but not requalify do we get Gold for the following year?

The needful has been done by myself.

I went through my emails and I found a February and March monthly statement from VFF but never received and April statement, so I sent those two.

As other said, the statements had no activity other than VFF number,, name, points balance and a bunch of advertising.

I've sent in my email with photo of physical membership card and account statement which is basically a screenshot of the my velocity page. Currently Velocity Gold so fingers crossed I get it.

The T&C's do say it's for "top tier members". Nothing to lose by asking though....

How bizarre. I'm not seeing that requirement anywhere else, and there's no mention of it if you input a domestic route into the Qcalculator.
Does anyone have any real-world experience with this? I wonder if perhaps the website is out of date...
I don't personally have any experience with it, but found this (admittedly two year old) thread on FlyerTalk.
Paid J seat on QF SYD-BNE, no earn.
Someone also mentions HBA-MEL, no earn.
I'd be curious to hear any recent experiences, but seems like any QF domestic flight, regardless of fare bucket, earns nothing on QR.

I too just emailed my details, thanks for those posts with helpful info above.

still hopeful Virgin will return to skies, but more I read lately the more i think lounges & other benefits may not be part of V2. This Qatar offer may help us a little, just a little.

thanks

I beleive status, business class and lounges will still be part of VA. I've applied for the status match because I don't fly QF or oneworld so in reality won't ever be in a position to earn OW status. But if I had it I'd try and use it.

fingers crossed. Same here, no intention to earn OW status.
Also I don't need to fly Virgin until near years end my review date. As Virgin gifting 1 year status extension, can fly Qantas until then if this Qatar equivalent successful & see/compare their service for status holders.

Quick question, does having Qatar status get you into Qantas lounges for Qantas domestic flights?

I have the same question, I *think* the Qantas Club (basic lounge) but not the business one. I've been flying VA for years so I'm not clear on how their lounges work.

Applied for your Platinum status match yet?

The QR Platinum card is a metal card and can get you into QF Business Class domestic, and QF First Intl lounges.
In fact - QR Platinum members can access the *REAL* first-class lounge in Doha. Even QF Plat One and Chairmans Lounge members can't get into that lounge!
