Re: [Confirmed] Qatar May be Invited to Join One World

I have stayed away from this thread up to now.

So the rumour is no longer a rumour. Interesting to see what happens next....

Looks very good.....finally some good news for our PER based members.

The lounges look spectacular!

Maybe makes QF irrelevant for Perth QFF members when it comes to International travel.

Re: [Confirmed] Qatar May be Invited to Join One World

So does mean QF will fly to Doha?
Seems like everybody is joining Oneworld.
Plus some of them Star Alliances programs are looking quite thin.

Qatar OneWorld join date??

Does anyone know if/when Qatar is joining OneWorld? I am Qantas Gold and I have been looking at booking J class on MH from MNL-LHR next April for US$1970 but have found Qatar is a bit cheaper on same route - US$1750. I have heard Qatar is a very good airline - any thoughts/opinions?
Thanks in advance

Re: Qatar OneWorld join date??

No one can say for sure, but if you believe Wikipedia, and it's 3 sources, October 2013 at this stage.

They would appear to be in a much better position to implement systems and integrate than other OW future members who have taken far longer.

Re: Qatar OneWorld join date??

MH fare basis is DBZOWPH under which the refund fee is US$100, so you'll still be slightly better off if you do cancel the flights and book on QR (assuming the fare is still available) once it is confirmed that QR will join OW before your travel date...

Re: Qatar OneWorld join date??

Here is an existing thread that answers your joining date question.

Their J package is superb, only missing the limousine service of EK and QF. Great food, excellent full lie-flat seats with massage, and a really top lounge in Doha. Though it looks a bit squeezy down the back - I don't know if they'd be my first choice for economy class.

Did a QR 77W last weekend from SIN-DPS and back (at the back of the plane). Certainly better than EK as they have 9 seats across vs 10 seats on EK. And I was subjected to one of those nasty immediate/fast/straight back/no warning recliners, and the seat in front - after recline - didn't even come near my knees, and although I'm not super-tall (6') usually recliners require me to recline to give myself some leg/knee room. This time unnecessary.

Re: Qatar OneWorld join date??

The QR A330s are nothing special IMO, but I do hear a lot of good about their 777s (haven't flown on them personally though). Not sure about the B787.

Agreed the A330 (and A340 they fly in Europe) aren't as nice as the 777. They get sloping seats (rather than proper lie-flat), less legroom and less space for your bits & pieces. Having said that the meals and service are excellent. The 777 are really nice, and the images of the 787 look like they've taken the quality up another gear.
