Alan Joyce will not be forced to appear before a second parliamentary inquiry after the coalition was defeated a vote this afternoon in the Senate by 34-31.
I’d like to know the justification of the 34 senators who voted against this .

Because it’s pointless point scoring exercise. A waste of everyone’s time and money.

As if the Govt. were going to make their mate face the music

Lets not forget he has been the governments mate prior to the change last year so it's grandstanding from all sides. Both sides of politics are mud slingers.

There’s no point in AJ being the political football anymore and he would not have said anything interesting anyway.

Time to move on from political stunts.

Out of the current senate enquiry, it’s good to see the current government is bringing back ACCC oversight of airlines. That’s one of the best mechanisms rather than political grandstanding.

I did spend a while ploughing through today's Hansard seeking an answer to @kelvedon 's question. It's not there yet but I can confirm there has been plenty of political points scoring all round.

Senators also noting that discussions with Qatar are continuing at an official (departmental) level. The nature of this game is that the show is ongoing while at least one of the parties want to play - compare the negotiations with the Chinese over Cheng Lei (result) and Wang Hengjun (no result yet). No in these sort of diplomatic discussions does not mean never.

I must have missed that?
Mentioned in this article alng with who made the call in the senate not to extend.

I'm sick and tired of business people, politicians etc simply being able to walk away and leave their pile of 💩 to fix up, knowing all the while that what they were doing was potentially illegal and morally wrong. Let alone in this case get a massive bonus. So while nothing may come of it, of course it won't, surely we all deserve to see a real squirm. Life made difficult for a while. Accountability. Seems to have disappeared from life.

Well, you might see some squirm, but most want blood. They won't get it.

Like when a prosecuter says it's not worth the suit because a conviction isn't likely. Putting AJ on the stand (even with the threat of contempt), listening to whatever coughfooting he'll proffer up will give no one satisfaction unless he ends up in prison, blackballed from holding an executive position at any company, or dies. None of those are likely.

It's not fair, but we live in a capitalist society, hardly a moral one.

And by this example, it is tantamount to accepting it's ok to do this. That isn't capItalism. He didn't even have to face the AGM and nor will Goyder.

Goyder has not yet departed. For now, he is still Qantas Chairman and will have to appear at the 3 Nov 2023 AGM
... and so will have control of the questioning from the floor and also be able to defend his and AJ’s legacy. He'll have the final word on everything.
