Hi all, we had an award booking in F class from Australia to Male. With Qatar now operating double flights, they’ve swapped the A380 for a 77W, resulting in a downgrade on our first leg from F to J. The second leg remains in F.

I received an email asking me to either accept the changes or request a full refund of the Avios (cancel the booking). However, when I contacted the team via phone, they said they’re unable to issue a refund for the points difference to keep the booking with the downgrade.

Has anyone experienced this before? Should I accept the changes and then follow up with an email to request a manual refund of the points? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have experienced this with QFF on EK reward flights and without asking they returned the points difference but still granted F lounge access in DXB, not sure about QR as I am yet to fly them

I’m in the same boat as have same situation for Oct next year….doubt will get any point refund on AA miles (and there’s no flights to swap into then at cheaper rate) but missing the F lounge in Doha….does anyone know about lounge access in Doha?

If your next flight is F you will get in the AS lounge. What's your final destination?

My first flight was J to Doha and then was supposed to be F on the a380 to Perth which is now J as well. Guess no AS lounge even though luggage allowance still shows 50kg for first….at least the Perth flight will be Q suite so that’s a consolation

I dunno how qatar calculates their award costs? Is it per sector, or simply based on the highest class on any sector in the booking? If the latter you might not be eligible for a refund.

Otherwise, if you don’t accept, you’re going to be out of a holiday?

Could you ask them to put you in F to SYD instead?
Tried this but no go - apparently they need to cancel the booking completely and then I need to re-book. Didn't really push for it but could have HUCA.

I'll likely accept the booking. Q-suites won't be so bad. Was just sussing options.

I booked Ord-Doh (J) then onward to Per in F. Used BA avois. They attempted to rebooked to Syd but showed no availability. I highly doubt they would give F lounge access is Doh. I also asked about if they switch back to an A380 if I would be placed back in the F cabin and they said NO! I’m beyond pissed at that. They said there would need to be space available.
